when you buy a new hardware (like your scanner) it comes with a cd that will install some software in your computer to aid running the program. In most cases that software will create its own folder where it will automatically save any media or files that it has worked with (like any pictures that you scan). So they dont automatically will go to my pictures folder but to that folder instead. Once you find that forlder you could drag pictures in the the "my pictures" folder or you could cut and paste, or resave on "my pictures" folder.

When you first scan a picture, it will display it for your to view and to crop or modify your settings to make it like you would like...
Somewhere on your screen should be a "save picture now" or "send picture" button...
once you click that button then it will send it to the location/program that you select under your destination settings... it might be to a graphics program, to a file, to email, etc... depending upon your scanning software...
There should also be something that lets you select what type of file to save your scan into... jpg, tiff, bmp, etc...
If you are saving to a file, there should also be a place to select the naming conventions... such as Pic00001, with auto increment on the numerical part...
If you can find out even the extension of your saved files then you can do a "search" for them... and just put in the extension...
Most programs will either save your scans into the scanning software's directory someplace or into your Documents and Settings directory...

I don't know what program you're scanning them with, but try to find out what folder the program puts pictures after scanning them. You should be able to set the program to automatically put them in your My Pictures folder.
