Puppies generally do not need to get bathed until they are five months old since they get their vaccinations during these first five months of their lives and during this time their bodies are more sensitive to catching a cold. It's always best to take all the necessary precautions just to be sure. When your puppy finally takes his first bath, make sure to find a nice warm spot to it in and use the appropriate dog shampoo. Puppies and dogs don't need to get bathed very often in order to stay clean. The most important requirement for their cleanliness is to get groomed and brushed everyday. If the dog or puppy gets mud on his coat, you can clean it off by using a towel with soap and warm water. Constantly bathing a puppy and dog is not recommended because shampoo and soap damages the natural oils of the puppy's skin and it tends to let off a strong odor and their coats begin to look dull. You should bathe your puppy or dog every two or three months or whenever absolutely necessary. To bathe your puppy you will need to use a washtub according to his size. Put a little anti slip mat underneath the puppy's feet so that he does not slip. If your pooch is nervous about this new experience, put some cotton balls inside his ears so that no water gets inside of them. Make sure to use good quality dog shampoo (never human shampoo or soap), and apply it rubbing opposite of the way his hair grows. Start by first washing off the puppy's body and then finish with his head. When rinsing the puppy off make sure you keep his head upwards so that soapy water does not get into his sensitive eyes. Generally it's recommended to let the puppy dry off on his own but there are some people that use hair dryers; make sure to though, to only use the hair dryer on the lowest setting and to never blow the air into the puppy's eyes! The most recommended way however, is to allow the puppy to dry out in the sun and let him burn off his energies too. You will then notice how he drowses off to sleep very quickly. It's very important bath time be a very enjoyable experience and that you treat the puppy with a lot of love as well as instill trust in him so that he cooperates. Al;way's remember to bath puppy early in the day, make sure he/she is completely dry before bedtime.

It depends a bit on the breed of dog, but in general, once a month is more than enough or you'll really dry out the dog's skin and coat. Make sure you use a dog shampoo as shampoo formulated for people is too hard on a dog's skin. Make sure you rinse out all the shampoo really well, then towel dry. You might also want to get your puppy used to being dried with a blow dryer - makes their coat look good and keeps them from staying cold for too long.

Puppies should not be bathed that often. Adult dogs usually get bathed about once a week or once every other week. If my dog is real stinky, then I will wash her sooner rather than later. If I know that they dog is going to get wet or dirty (from being outside or from the rain, etc.), I'll wait a little longer until the weather has cleared up.

After the puppy is about 16 wks you can bathe it about every 2-4 wks as needed. Some dogs are bathed more often. For example my therapy dog gets a bath every 2 weeks because we visit sick and old people and he needs to be very clean. My Shih-tzu gets a bath once a week because she pretty much goes where we go including sleeping with us and we don't like her to smell like a dog. She also itches after about day 6 and feels better after a bath. You shouldn't bathe them anymore than necessary because it dries out their skin. So... with all those answers... you choose what is best for your puppy. Use frontline or advantage for fleas and bathe with a non detergent shampoo like baby shampoo, or oatmeal and aloe.

Dogs aren't meant to be bathed often. I would say to leave this until the dog either stinks, or he's managed to get filthy playing.

If you bathe a dog too often you take the chance of drying out his skin, leading to infections.

What you should be watching for, however, is ear mites. Pups are prone to them. If they have a black scaley looking crust in the ears, that stinks, take them to the vet for treatment. He'll also give you a regimen of cleaning and treatment for you to do at home.

the general is bathe a puppy every couple of weeks, I believe. then gradually stretch that out as the puppy becomes an adult. Then once a month is the norm. too often, is harmful cuz it dries the skin.

Bathing too frequently can actually harm your dog. Even the dog shampoos can strip your dog's coat of its natural oils. I wouldn't bathe him more than once a month or so unless he smells really bad.

I hardly ever bathe my dog. I only do it when it starts stinking, looks dirty, or it needs a flea dip. Go with what you feel is best, I don't think every 2 days is practical or necessary.

I wash my pups every Friday evening, that way they are used to being bathed, and they don't get really jumpy when you try to bathe them. I would say once a week to once every other week would be good

My puppy gets a bath once every other week. My sister-in-law bathes her yorkie once a week because it sleeps with her.
