Not many programmes I know of will do much better than WinZip,.. even Winrar isn't much better,... problem is that MP3 is an already heavily compressed music format,.. so there's not much space that can be compressed any further,.... But knowing me there may be programmes out there that can do what it is you're after,.. I suppose you need to keep looking,.. maybe.

No. Zipping them compresses them. So does converting them to MP3. You cannot compress them further with a zip utility. If you want them smaller, you can encode them in a lower bitrate (such as the crappy WMA format) but you will lose a great deal of sound quality.

hmmn.. probably not, because an mp3 file is already compressed, so it would be redundant. however if you are too concerned about saving space, try to convert the file into a lower bitrate (but this would lessen/affect the sound quality). lower bitrate means lower file size but also lower sound quality. so it's more about weighing down whether it's size or quality...
to convert an existing mp3 into a lower bitrate (converting mp3 into a higher bitrate is tecnhically impractical), use MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX (or similar applications)... in the file menu, there is a CONVERT FILES option, and in the window that follows, you can select the bit rate to convert it to...

Not easily, you can try winrar with the maximum compression level but it is a long shot. MP3 are already compressed.
1 other option is to convert them to a lower sample rate . . . .

I heard about different types of MPs, look for them and you will save space and your pc will read it, but your car stareo no. I think is called MP4 or something like that, personally MP3 is the best compress audio file, good quality and i deal with the space...
I hope it helps..

Bill is right. If you compress an already compressed file you save no additional space. Don't waste your time.

they are already compressed so you will not gain anything, if you want to make mp3's smaller, convert the to windows media and drop the byte rate on them
