What could you do if you were held in city jail without being charged?

First besides being held for 72 hours, or being held as a material witness you won't be.
But you get an attorney and file a suit against the jail.

Nothing really, wait till they let you out and then find out the information that there going to give you which is going to say for what your being charged, has soon has you get outta there go home take a shower, eat and go the a lawyer, all there going to tell you is if you can just take it to court or if it will be dropped or what would the next prosess be community service, whateva....

In many states, you have to be presented before a court official within 24 hours of your arrest (even if your arrest fell on a holiday or a weekend). If you were presented to a court official 24 hours after your arrest, you have grounds to have the entire case against you thrown out.
Sounds like you are out - so contact an attorney and they can sort out the mess for you.

For how long and what are the circumstances? Were they letting you sober up? Were you in protective custody? How long were you there for?
