No, you can damage the readable layer of the disc with some pens - affects the reflective surface. I only tend to use media markers or some permanent markers although these can damage some of the cheaper own brand discs

NO!!! The one time I tried to do it, I found the pen wasn't writing dark enough so being the dumba$$ I am, I pressed harder, ruining the CD. Use a Sharpie or something like it.

You can write on a CD on the top side ONLY and I'd suggest using something like a felt tip pin... ie Sharpie.

No pens unless they're soft tipped, and you don't have to press them hard to make them write -- the surface where the data is stored is right under the writable surface.

Do not use a ball point. Use a gell pen or sharpie.

i find that a permanent marker fine point works best
