The laws of cause and effect are universal and immutable. As you sow, so shall ye reap.
Don't use this life as your only yardstick for the truth of this law.
Love of yourself and others brings you closer to God, fear and hate removes you further away. This is the reward for your thoughts and actions. Any results in this life are merely temporary.

This is the most annoying and worrying thing about believers. They will do things FOR the reward. Never mind if you're rewarded! Can't you do things just because they're good?
