I've seen some atheists speak so negatively about R&S, yet frequent the religion and spirituality section. Not saying you shouldn't be here, but what about the religion and spirituality section makes you want to be in it???? Are the others sections not as interesting to you??

Could be for the following reasons:

1. They are lost, hopeless creatures, and as babies, they screamed and banged their baby rattles in seeking attention and they continue to do so today.

2. Misery loves company and they want everyone to be as miserable as they are.

3. Deep down inside, they are crying out and begging for help.

4. They are a bunch of Brain Donor losers and have nothing better to do.

I apologize if my response was maybe not as civil as it could have been, but I burn a short fuse when it comes to dealing with losers who try and do harm to those of the Christian faith.

I don't even go to church, but I stand up and fight for what is right and hate and fight evil with a passion.

The R&S section deals with the big questions in life. I personally don't think they have answers, but other people do. When you have respect in a conversation, it doesn't matter if you agree with other people's opinions, learning about those opinions is worthy and rewarding. I do not need to yearn for a deity in order to understand that faith IS important to some people.

For example, my English Composition II course in college, we had to write a 5-8 page persuasive essay. Most people had chosen gun control or abortion or any other idea that the teacher probably had read every possible view point on. So I instead went to a role playing game I play, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, and intensely studied the legends of the various tribes of the werewolves in the game. Using these legends, I applied logic, roleplayed a few 'interviews' with friends, and did my final paper as a persuasive essay as to the correct interpretation of the werewolves' mythology. My paper had two title pages and two bibliographies, one real, one from "in character". It was an interesting paper even though the subject matter was entirely fictional, and was written from the viewpoint of one of the werewolves, and I had a great deal of fun putting serious, sincere critical thought into analyzing the evidence and coming up with a logically valid conclusion. Also, my teacher loved it because she got to sink her intellectual teeth into a conversation she'd never had been exposed to. I was the first unique paper since she started teaching college level courses.

So imagine how enthralling a respectful conversation about real world mythologies can be, even to a nonbeliever. It's not that the nonbeliever has a void for god so much as they just enjoy knowledge for its own sake, and logic for its own sake.

I have just answered this question elsewhere, but here is a copy:

There are very few rational thinkers capable of understanding true spirituality because in order to reach that level, a person needs to acquire a high level of spiritual maturity at the Soul level, which is a great attainment only very few are capable of.

I believe, however, that many of the people who make bitter remarks do so out of frustration more than out of animosity. Perhaps there is a proportion of them who are actually rational thinkers and for that very reason refuse to accept a dogma or a calling itself "spiritual" belief that is full of illogical statements, loopholes, and is built on blind aceptance of authority, rather than being able to generate true and spontaneous persuasion by the power of its rationale and the lucidity of its presentation. Perhaps these people visit the same theme over and over again, in the hope that one day a sparkle ignites their expectations.

I, as an individual have gone through all of these stages, myself. I was born into a Christian background, but as I developed my own free logical thinking, I rejected the dogma and my conscience was abhored by the atrocities commited by the church, like with its Inquisition, with millions of innocent people being murdered by the church/inquisition abusing the name of Christ, and by violating all of Christ's values, to the limits, for own greed for power and money. These realizations naturally threw me into the opposite direction, and I thought I became an atheist, as a young adult. But then, throughout my life, there were such profound experiences that indicated guidance and even direct intervention by a higher power, that I could not overlook them. As a more mature adult I started exploring this inner guidance, and I discovered that I was a spiritual being, that all the knowledge I needed was inside me and I was only put off by seeking it elsewhere, like through the church.

Then something else happened a few years ago. Something that I would never have believed could happen, should it not have happened to me. I started being able to receive and channel information directly from the Source, and I was guided to write down the Concept of Rational Spirituality.

This Concept contains the full and genuine truth about God, the Universe and people's place in it. It contains all the information that was throughout the history referred to as the Holy Grail, and which was lost to humanity by the anihilation of the Cathars, the holders of the Holy Grail, by the church in 1244.

If there are people who are demanding thinkers, and would embrace the Truth, then they may want to study the Concept on the Dhaxem website. This profound knowledge can be free to anyone who benefits from it, and respects it.

I believe that the confrontation referred to in your question is due to the division that is inherent in the very words "religion" and "atheism". I believe that boths words could simply be replaced by the word "Truth". Than all those who open their hearts and their minds to the Truth can unite under one umbrella of peace.

If the above results in at least one person's life being influenced to the better, it was worth my time writing it.

With my very best wishes to every reader.

Why the lack of expertise of what an atheist is?!! ATHEIST - somebody who does not have faith in a God – any God – not in hassle-free terms the Christian one. yet that doesn't recommend they don't carry solid ethical or non secular ideals! they are in a position to maintain on with any faith that doesn't have a god and there are dissimilar those!! Like BUDDHISM – non secular coaching from Buddha and his followers that by ability of destroying greed, hatred and fantasy (the reason of all suffering) guy can attain appropriate enlightenment!! the place do you think of christianity have been on condition that is concepts of a soul and afterlife from for goodness sake? They stole it from the pagan tribes and peoples which existed 1000's and hundreds of years formerly christianity!! From the stone age by way of vikings, Egyptians, Maoris, Aborigines, American Indians and exceedingly the chinese language, all of them had problematic funerals and grave products to velocity the soul into the subsequent life with convenience!! sooner or later christians will understand what injury their lack of expertise approximately non christians is doing to their faith!! yet will that is too late?!!

Because they want to share a philosophy that makes them feel better and cope better with the world. They are also angry because religion used to be a heavy burden on them so they want to get even. Also, most people like to think that they have all the answers. When you are an atheist, you don't have to compete against God, so pretty much you can pretend that you do have all the answers.

Do you know how you enjoy telling stories and sharing your experiences in this forum? We also enjoy doing this. It is interesting to discuss with others their beleifs. And, much like you feel your duty is to "spread the Gospels" it is our duty to spread knowledge and intelligence (or, what beleivers refer to as "Satans Message.") We also feel a sense of duty to point out the hypocrisy in the beleifs.

I can certainly tell you that I do not frequest this section because I "fear you" opr because I think, deep down inside, that you are right....that is something I see many Christians beleive...and it is horribly wrong and rather..prideful, which is a sin I might add....

Have you seen some of the stuff people come up with in this section?? It's hilarious! I just giggle and respond intelligently. It's like a game to me.

Why do you come here so often if you're so sure about what you believe in?

It's partially for my own education... what do other people believe and why... does it make any sense? Why does it make sense to them? Things like that.

The other part of it is it gives me an opportunity to attempt to educate people when they show that they don't really know what they are talking about. Like creationists who ask questions like "if we evolved from monkeys then why are there still monkeys?" It shows that they don't have a proper understanding of evolution. I'm here to pass on the knowledge that i have and not let it go to waste.

Well-phrased, but I bet atheists and agnostics go to other sections like anyone else. I've seen familiar faces from here all over.

I guess because we've an interest in religion. Isn't that why we're all here? Why would atheists have a different reason?

There is a section called 'all catagories' and the RS questions appear there also, so someone can see them without being in the RS section. Got it?
