Muslims around the world expressed outrage Friday over
Pope Benedict XVI's comments on Islam,
Why are they so outraged, Christianity takes these kinds of comments all the time and never bats an eye or lifts a finger, why are the muslims so ready to riot if Islam is peaceful???
Benedict quoted from a book recounting a conversation between 14th century Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and a Persian scholar on the truths of Christianity and Islam.
"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the pope said. "He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"
Benedict did not explicitly agree with the statement nor repudiate it.
The Pope was just stating what had happened and not condemning anyone, what gives??? Is it because this might be true?? Why is this such an issue if Islam is peaceful??
Give me your ideas

This is an honest question and trying to get it removed as bashing would be an example of how you can't take an honest question from the news..

The issue I see being avoided is that the Pope did not say (iniciate) that remark, he only quoted it from the past. and he didn't agree or disagree with it.

I am not a defender of the Catholic style of worship, but the Popes comments were genuine and truthful.
he did not incite or recite anything that was not already well known in the world community.
He simply tried to state that he wanted an open forum to discuss without violence getting in the way. What he is getting in return is the same sort of hate and violence that he was asking them to abstain from.

Don’t you see the irony in Muslims being able to desecrate a Christian Temple in Jerusalem by spreading feces on images of Christ? But a Christian leader (the Pope) can’t remind people of what 14th century Byzantine emperor Manuel Paleolous II said about the profit Mohammad several hundred years ago. It wasn’t even the Popes own words or thought. He was repeating what Paleolous II supposedly said. . What’s with the hypersensitivity anyway?
The Muslims can dance in the streets; shout and yell; raise their fists all they want to but I do not believe the Pope owes Muslims an apology for anything.
Some have contended the terrorists are a form of radical Islam and a small minority of the faith. They say the large majority of Muslims are a peaceful people. I am beginning to wonder about these claims when I see the reported millions in the streets protesting what the Pope repeated.
Two faced or what? Is Islam a peaceful religion or a violence based religion? By what I am seeing and hearing, I would have to conclude the latter.

OK I have no problem with what Pope quoted
"'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'" "
Even tho' I agree with what pope said he has to be carful what he says when he is in such a postion.
BUTTT....
What has enraged me so called Muslims from all ove the world suddenly have voice to condemn Pope....AND these same very people have not spoken a single word against islamic terrorism gripping whole world.
If there are ANY peace loving muslims they should first condemn terriorism and then think of
protesting what pope said or what salman rushdies said or what the carton in Denmark depicted....
The more I think abt Islam the more I feel this is a truly relgion meant for intolerant bastards ...wealthly sheiks ...filthy paskistanis....
And guess what poor Sikhs are being killed by some ignorant bastards thinking they are muslims.....!!!!

The complicity of the Catholic church allowed Islam to overthrow the Byzantine Empire.
Rome saw how the other ancient patriarchs of Antioch, Jerusalem and Alexandria come under Islamic control before the Great Schism in 1054. Now that Byzantine came under Islamic control - there was no longer any imperial state sponsor of Orthodoxy to be found. As the pope grew stronger, Orthodoxy weakened - but hasn't completely gone away, yet.
The pope's comments upset Muslims because Muslims know that besides Spain, no Catholic power has ever yielded to Islam.

The Pope -- this one or the next one -- should stay out of other people's beliefs, religions, customs, traditions -- He should only deal with his own religion -- and that is a lot to say already. We just have to turn the history books pages and pages back and will see -- what religions of all shapes and sizes and beliefs brought to this world. We also have to stop being ultra-sensitive on every word uttered either by a religious representative and or political person. They are human -- to err is human so they do that quite often --specially in to-days' world where every word is translated and transliterated right and left --whether the original intention is right or wrong. Stop the world, I want to get off -- I wish to read a good novel or see a good movie now --not what goes on in this shaky world! Voila -- my comment with no comments!

for all of those who thinks Islam is an unpeaceful religion, i think they are so shallow and just believe what they see and hear but they don't really go deep and know Islam very well. Actually if you read the quran you will know that all your thoughts about Islam is false. actually i read so many Islamic books and i live in a Islamic culture and i really think Islam is a great great religion. for example, in war Islam forbid killing women, children and old people and also forbid destroying the trees and plants. however, jews i mean people in isreal do that all the time in Jerusalem and suddenly Jewish is a peaceful religion for all people. oh i wonder why!!!!! and if you see some Muslims evils, inhuman and extremism (by the way they are few) that is because they understand Islam in a wrong way. and if you read about prophet mohammed you will know he was nothing but a peaceful great great man that should be a role model for all people. always when you read a thing check where it come from because people who hates Islam publish books that are false.

The Pope has no reason to apologize, he quoted a 14th century emperor and it was taken out of context. I know of no other religion in recent history that has been as militant, radical, and terroristic as the Islamic radicals. Almost all terrorist acts have been in the name of Islam, all beheadings, suicide bombing, and torture has been in the name of Islam. The rest of the world should demand an apology from the Islamic clerics, and a pledge for them to stop the senseless violence done by these so called true believers.

It disturbs me that people are brushing off his comments just because he's a pope. What could he say or do that would cause people to question him? Nothing? This is ridiculous. This central figure made an inexcusable attack on another religion, publicly. He should apologize. If this gets a thumbs-down (which I'm sure that it will), so be it. Someone needs to admit that this was a mistake. It's extremely dangerous to blindly follow someone.

I left a false religion (Hinduism) to follow the true God.
When Christians speak the truth about religion(s) that preach lies & violence, I am not surprise to hear that those followers get offended. The Anti-Christians of the world like Muslims knows that the only way to keep their follower from leaving Islam is threaten them with violence and terror. That is why they are afraid to speak out.
If they will not speak out then everyone else who don’t buy their lies should speak the truth.
I support the Pope! May the true God Jesus bless him.
Raymond.

If the Pope wants to enrage an already sensitive situation, then he should be held accountable. People wonder why extremists are angry, but don't forget that a Christian President LIED when he said he wanted to invade Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction. It was all about OIL. And for the Pope to make these comments is only adding fuel to their fire. It's too bad that he can't see the sense in "live and let live". But then again, look at the troubles that xtians have caused around the world for centuries, and how they are always cramming their beliefs in everybody's face.
