My Chihuahua mix-age 2- is going bald! Vet can't figure it out! Help!?

Question

She is maybe a chiweenie or chipin mix, who is at age either 1.5 or 2.5 she was a recue, is suddenly losing her hair on her head and ears, chest, and belly. Poor thing! The vet tested for mange, dermodex twice, and thyroid. She did a prescription of antibiotics with no results. He says a pet dermotologist is next. $$$ I have looked all over the web for info, with no results. Please help Nola!

She is on the dry dog food natural balance. She would eat ALL day long if she could. She did while in the shelter and got a big belly. She will eat baseboards, plastic, ... :(

I have a black and tan rat terrier mix and a freind with a black and tan dachshund. Both dogs are about 2 and started to thin out considerably on their stomaches and chests. My dog also developed horrible dandruff.
Both have been vet checked and both are healthy dogs. Both had normal bloo counts and no vitamin defeciencies. Both vets have said the same thing- some animals just thin and it is more prevalent in the black haired dogs than others.

We both changed our dogs to Purina Little Bites because it has a little more fat in it and watch how much they eat each day. Also as they age we will have to maintain a good weight for them to ward off heart desiease. ( as we all should anyway )
We both do not bathe the dogs as often as we would the others. Once every 4 weeks with a wet washcloth bathe in between. This has helped my dog trmendously and her skin is healthy and her hair has stopped falling out and is growing back in except in patches under her front arms where she rubs it as she runs.
My friends dog has not started growing any hair back but it has stopped thinning.

Has your vet did a skin scraping and culture? It could be the rarely diagnosed staph problem ( dog is not immune to strains of staph bacteria ) They do have a shot treatment for this if diagnosed correctly but it can be costly unless you learn to give the shots yourself that builds up the immune system.
DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOUR DOG IS DIAGNOSED AND YOU ARE TRAINED BY THE VET!!
The culture will grow indicating the specific strain or strains that are affecting the dog- i.e. staph intermedius, etc.

Ask your vet to do the scraping and culture to test for this so you can begin treatment immediately.

Try to find an organic dog food. don't put him on a feeding schedule, just leave the food out so he can eat when ever he wants. If you aren't already switch to dry dog food, for the bowl that is always out.

It might work, I did this with my dog and got average results in her skin and coat.

Sounds like poor Nola is suffering from allergies or a deficiency in vitamins. What kind of food is she on?

Is she blue? It could be color dilution alopecia. Good luck finding out the cause. I saw one dog that has allegies so bad that her fur fell out and she had big welts and sores from scratching.

i have the same type of dog and i had that same problem ... it wad the flea and tick spray i had put on her. i think the name of it was Davis or something like that. it made all of its hair fall out
