It's such a simple explanation that they must get horribly tired of explaining it:
Atheists do not believe in God because there is no actual qualifiable evidence that He exists. Done. That's all there is to it.

And now you do the same thing. I'm an Atheist and I try very hard to have serious discussions with Christians on this site.
It doesn't always go well since not all are prepared to consider an Atheist might actually have a point.
The reason Atheists don't really explain why they don't believe is that we haven't seen a reason TO believe. When someone tells you to believe something you find makes no sense, do you ask "Why?" or "Why not?" Atheists go with the former.

I am an atheist. I explain all the time why I don't believe in God. You can check it out at my website, Finest.Net (3) under "atheism." When people ask me why I don't believe in God, I have to pick and choose WHICH reason because there are so many. I try not to make fun of people who do believe in God because it is my honest belief that they do so out of an emotional need which is normal. For whatever reason, this emotional need has not blinded my analysis of the facts and I have come to the only logical conclusion which is this -- If there is a god, he/she/it is nothing like the God of the Bible. I came to this conclusion by reading the Bible and applying common sense.
If this is considered name-calling, then I guess I am guilty, but I fail to see how it is.
Remember, not all atheists have wonderful personalities nor do all Christians. Belief does not dictate personality. If you don't believe me, visit a jail and ask for a show of hands who believes in God. While atheists represent 4% of the population at large in the U.S.(2), they only represent 0.209% in jails.(1) According to the Baylor Religion Survey, "Atheists are certain that God does not exist. Nevertheless, atheists may still hold very strong perspectives concerning the morality of human behavior and ideals of social order but have no place for the supernatural in their larger worldview."
If you want to see what ardent atheists really are like, I invite you to find and visit your local chapter of the American Humanists (4)
I hope this will help you gain a more rounded understanding of those who happen not to have the same beliefs as you.

I just read a whole bunch of posts from atheists who didn't name call anyone. Their explanations are good enough...there lacks evidence. So what's wrong with that? To the atheist a god belief is just as silly and unbelievable as it is to a god-believer thinking that it is silly and unbelievable that the universe just 'happened'.
And when most people condemn atheists for not believing in 'god' what they 'really' mean is that they can't believe that an atheist doesn't believe in 'their' god. Totally hypocritcal. A god believer can reject other gods for no good reason other than "that is how I believe" whereas an atheist does the same thing and y then suddenly "that is just how I believe" isn't good enough. It is as though they are offended that atheists do not swallow the bullcrap.

There are atheists who just ridicule the believers, just as there are theists who just ridicule the atheists. Both groups annoy me. Both look like jerks to me, and in some ways I feel the atheist ones are more annoying to me: they reflect poorly on people who share my beliefs.
Some of us atheists are quite willing to discuss the reasons for our beliefs (or lack thereof). For me, the short answer is: I don't believe in god is because I don't think the available evidence supports the god-hypothesis. More specifically, I don't believe in the christian god because the bible is rife with contradictions, much of the stuff in it doesn't mesh with what I observe in the real world, and the god behaves in what I regard as a most ungodly fashion. In my view, he acts like a spoiled brat that nobody can discipline.
If you want to discuss the evidence, I don't mind doing that. Not that we're likely to get very far - in my experience, the theists who actually listen to the arguments are few and far between. I do try to keep the discussion civil and respectful, though. (When I talk of Yahweh behaving like a spoiled brat, I don't mean it as an insult in any way, I mean it as an accurate description of how I interpret biblical descriptions of his behavior).

Have you ever asked them to explain why they don't believe in God?
I don't believe in God because I don't believe in Christianity, or any organised religion. I tried for a bit at university, hung out with some evangelists and all they taught me was the religion is all based on hatred. Gay people are going to Hell, your parents are going to Hell, people in other religions in other countries who've never had a chance to even hear about Christianity are going to Hell - their words, obviously and it was horrible.
I want nothing do with an organisation or deity that preaches hatred of others and gives people free will and then condemns them for following the path they feel is right for them. It's nonsensical.
I don't hate Christians at all, I don't come on here to shout anyone down and I respect everyone's right to relgion, before you have a go - you asked, and that's my answer.

What the hell are you on about? Are you completely insane? Almost every day someone asks "Atheists, why don't you believe in God?" and a few dozen atheists give their reasons for not believing in God. We don't include it in every answer because it isn't relevant to the question. Did you actually look for questions about why people are atheists before asking this, or were you too busy judging us? And since you've stepped out of your glass house and cast the first stone, why don't Christians ever explain why they believe in God without resorting to quoting the bible?

why should they have to explain anything to you?? why not let people believe what they choose to believe? You certainly aren't furthering your cause with this kind of useless question. Why do you lump them all together, from what Ive seen the atheists on here are very articulate and pose their views quite clearly. Why does what they believe bother you so much? Let it go and try to being a loving human being for a change!

I ALWAYS explain why I don't believe in God - I have no proof that he exists. I run my life the way I want to not the way some people follow blindly. I only name call those that bash me in my beliefs.

We don't have time to explain all the reasons why we don't. The reasons come from an immense variety of sources, from history, to science, to the religious texts themselves. You can't expect someone to explain in a single page, why they don't believe in a god. It would take a book. And you, as the reader, would have to have an understanding of the source material that book is based on. Most Christians, for example, don't have that understanding. (See your question about evolution the other day for an example)
