isn't it rather arrogant of us to pray to him and ask him to change it? After all, presumably in the absence of our pleading, he is going to follow his plan, right?

I have warned you people before: God does not tolerate rational thinking. Any more of this and it will be a sure ticket to God's personal torture chamber. Why can you not just believe, no matter how patently absurd it is. Remember, believing in absurdity is a sign of your faith.

It is arrogant to think that you know better than God. You should pray and ask him to show you the plan he has for your life and then that he would help you to follow HIS plan for you to be the best person that you can ever be.
In absence of our prayers and submission, we are in the hands of the devil and not doing the plan God has for us..

I guess that this is why we're supposed to pray for guidance and understanding, not that we'll get that certain job or gain the love of a certain person. We also have free will, and that makes us vulnerable to falling off the track that we've been placed on. By praying for the right path, we'll all end up where we're supposed to be.

I don't ask that he change his plan. In fact, the model Christian prayer has near the beginning: "Your will be done, on earth as in Heaven."

praying isn't pleading. (in my opinion , any way)
to me, praying is a 'thank you' for what i have in my life right now.

Exactly right. That's why we need to pray this prayer: Thy will be done, not: MY will be done.
