We had a party in our Rec Room in our tower(live in Japan). We had balloons all over the floor for the kids to chase around and play with and a pin the tail on the donkey game. We bought her a little soccer goal and ball because she loves soccer and put that in the corner for the kids to play with. Instead of a traditional birthday cake we made chocolate chip cookies and bought a big tub of ice cream and le the kids make their own ice cream sandwiches. They loved it and nothing was left over. lol :)

My daughter is turning 4 as well and we have decided that this may be the last year we can get away with a non friend birthday so we are taking a road trip to Memphis. They have a great zoo there and an awesome children's museum, according to a friend. Our family is all spread out and we weren't sure who all to invite this year, she has a bunch of friends from church and preschool and we didn't want to go overboard, so this just seemed easy. We will of course still do a cake and candles and all that fun stuff, but we'll save a big party for next year. That might be an idea for you, pick a place you know she'd have fun and just have a family day. However, we had a blast at my daughter's party last year and it might be a good idea for you as well. We went to a local farm that opens up a pumpkin patch in the fall. They had tables and tents set up that you could rent for the day, very reasonably priced, we supplied the cake and drinks and favors, and all the kids got to go on a hayride and take home a pie size pumpkin. I think I ended up paying about $85 for everything at the pumpkin patch. Lots of fun and very different, all the parents kept saying how much fun they had and even weeks later their kids were still talking about it. Have fun!

You could pick up some craft supplies and let the kids make something to take home, so you're covering entertainment and party favors in one shot. You could get some beads and ribbon or elastic and let them make their own jewelry. I recently saw a very cute set in a craft store - it was a set of 30 foam tiaras that could be decorated with foam, felt, rhinestones, glitter, paint, etc; this could tie in with a princess theme, keeps the kids entertained, and provide a fun and unique favor for them to take home! You could include a gift bag with plastic "jewel" rings and princess themed stickers to complement the tiara. Just make sure to put down a big tarp and avoid decorating items that the children might choke on.

If you know any high school or college age girls that might be aspiring artists, you could hire a couple to paint faces for about what you'd pay a baby-sitter. Don't feel pressured to throw a party filled with licensed cartoon character trinkets. Instead, go with a more generic theme like princesses, fairies, underwater or animals and you'll have more flexibility with what you can use and where you can shop.

A.C. Moore's website has tons of craft ideas, you could pick one or two crafts you think the kids could handle and would enjoy then build a theme around that.

TRY THIS!!! Have a real tea party. Have all of the other little girls in attendance to dress in their nicest dress. Have sandwiches cut into fancy shapes with cookie cutters, little cookies, or whatever snacks you want. My daughter attended a party like this and loved it! She felt so important and all of the kids were on their best behavior!!

She's four years old. Invited a few of her friends over for fun, games and snacks (simple foods, chips and juice) for about 3 or 4 hours.

The tea party idea is GREAT. My daughter is almost 3, she keeps asking for a dance party. Music and pretty dresses that float out when she dances...simple and easy.

Invite a few friends, blow up balloons and have pizza and juice. Look up kids party games online...many can be set up with things around the house.

Freeze dance is a good game.

Little girls are so much fun!! If your having trouble thinking of what to do for her birthday now wait until she's a teenager.

When my daughter was little I had a party for where she got to go shopping, play dress up and "pamper herself". I bought little combs, brushes, baretts, glitter hair gel, lotion and powders. Girls love being all girly.

we had our daughters 4th b-day party at chuck e cheese. if you can't afford 10.99 per child min of 4 then just go in and take up a couple of booths bring in your own cake and they'll provide cups and plates and plastic ware. We did that for her 2nd b-day.
