One of my daughter's friends called and thought I was her and I thought the friend was my daughter...it was a confusing conversation...the other girl was very upset and started telling me about how badly this guy was treating her and I was wondering why my daughter even cared about that guy since he wasn't the boy she was going with. I finally figured out who the caller was...I bet she was quite embarrassed.

If you read the above example you will see that I wasn't intentionally trying to pretend I wasn't me...I thought the caller was my daughter being distraught.

YES!!! All the time. My daughters' friends have always thought I was them, and I'll lead them on for awhile. Also, if it is someone I don't want to talk to, like a solicitor, I can tell them Mom isn't home. But it's awkward when it's for my husband and they ask if my Dad is home. I say, "He passed away in 1986".

No, but in a like situation I once received a call from my ex-Father-in-law (while married) who sounded the same on the phone as his son of the same name. The caller ID did not list the phone number and my brother-in-law did not list his number as "JR". I proceeded to make a fool of myself over a piece of property that JR was buying. Then "daddy" said that at least I didn't ask to give his wife a kiss hello! I was so embarrassed I would have hidden under a rock!

OK I don't have any kids.. but when i answer the phone I'm constantly asked (usually by solicitors) if "my mommy or daddy is home".

One time I got fed up and said that my mommy and daddy were up in their room making and they had been making some strange noises for about an hour now but if they want I can get on of them to come to the phone. - they said they would call back later (they never did)

No but my brother used to (a long time ago) pretend to be a kid whose mother left him home alone and that he wanted to find her because he was scared. You know, he would call and say, is my mommy there? People would be so upset. We were A-Holes!

Oh yes, and I tell them all kinds of things. I tell them how much they like school, and all the good things they should be doing, and I tell them they should never cuss, etc., ect. I never tell them the truth. I'm just giving alittle guidance when needed. Kool, huh?

they mistake me for my mom. once i had a conversation with one of my mom's friends and i don't even remember what it was about, just that i kept trying to tell her that i wasn't my mom, but she insisted that i was joking with her and kept right on talking.
