i live in new york where meth really isnt a problem. they say that market of coke and heroin is so good that the dealers of those drugs want to keep the cheaper meth out of the picture. i lived in texas for 2 years and got a taste of what is ravaging the southwest and other rural areas.

Any medicine containing either of these drugs is no longer over the counter here in Virginia. You have to register with the pharmacist. The reason they haven't banned them completely is that there is nothing else to replace it with. They don't have any meds that do the same thing without making you drowsy. (I would bet the company that actually makes these chemicals is greasing a few palms to keep it on the market as well)

It is not as easy as taking the ingredient out of the cold medication, mostly because those are the ones that make it work, and the only neg effect is when it is used for other than colds. They are making it harder to get OTC medication now. In my town all the medication that can be used to make meth is behind the counter now, you have to have a ID and you can only buy so much at a time now, and it is under lock and key so it can't even be shopp lifted any more. However since the medications are being taken away from easy acsess the meth cooker are using more houshold items like cleaners and stuff which is dangerous in a whole new way. Differant places are trying to doing all kinds of things but the bottom line is no matter what people do, take away the stuff they need to make it, more jail time, programs you name it, as long as there are people willing to pay everything they have for a hit nothing, at least right now and the near future, is goin to stop the dealers from finding something to use. Some meth that turned up last year was really bad and they found the chemicals it takes to develope film in it. It is crazy that people would be willing to put that in their body and knowing what it can do. It is sad. I have never tried it but I have several family members who have and right now 3 are in prison and it scares me cause I have 2 kids I have to keep off of it. I agree with you that something needs to be done but until people stop paying and the dealers have no reason to try and find the chemicals needed, all they ar doing is fighting agaisnt the ones trying to help them.

In NC there are Meth task forces to find and shut down these labs. One reason they are hard to find is the majority of these labs are in very remote and rural areas; some are even mobile. The way they are found is someone that lives near one gets a whiff of an aweful smell and calls the police. These labs are about 30-40 thousand dollars to clean up. Usually the SBI does the clean up. Special care has to be taken during clean up. They just have to take one lab at a time.

State of Oregon eliminated the purchase of certain cold medicines that are used to make meth.

You must now have a doctor's prescription to purchase these meth making medicines. Even with the prescription, the pharmacy will document who is buying the medicine and how often to regulate if drugs are the motive of the purchase.

It has cut down on meth labs by over 40percent w/in the first year. What is your state doing?

The only thing that they're doing is putting a limit on the amount of bottles that u can buy. All that person has to do is get about 10 people to come in with them and buy the limit.

your right only difference is they can only use up to a cetain percentage of it in drinks. i would write to coca cola and to various brand meds and ask why? you need to get this out more to the world and public. i agree meds are addicting and so is coke. i constantly drink coke all day.
