With His death the Jews law died with His Resurrection the New Law was established that being a spiritual law of redemption through His death. To answer your question, without the death, there would be no Christians today. He had to die.

Between His death and ressurection, the disciples were hiding, fearful, and doubting. It was His ressurrection and ascension that seemed to plainy lead to the development of the first church and thus organized Christianity.
To the Jews not following Christ, I suppose, this represented yet another faction in their already divided religion, ie. Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and apocalyptic Jews.

Well his death is what paid the penalty for sin. Then his resurection proved his power and authority over death and sin.
Jesus death did not have a detrimental impact on his religion because He is risen!

JESUS death created a split in the established Jewish Religious Belief System. A new Religious Belief System was started because of HIM. at least in my opinion.

The cross is the foundation of Christianity. We must not forget the cross.
In the old testament priest would offer sacrafices in exchange for the people sins. This was not working because they would go back and sin over and over.
So God decided to try something different. He decided to GIVE US A SACRAFICE in exchange for a lifetime of sin. He gave his son for us. Isn't that awesome. All we have to do is accept the sacrafice.
DUH, how hard is that.

I think that if Jesus had not died the way he did, there would have been no Christianity. He would have been just another Jewish carpenter with a good heart.
