Picking a church isn't about having fun, it is about finding truth.

That being said, as onetime Protestant who converted to Catholicism, I will share some of my observations with you:

1) At many Protestant churches music is so heavily stressed that you might forget you are not at a concert.

2) The "sermons" are longer at a Protestant church and can be about anything that the pastor wants to talk about. At a Catholic church the priest gives a homily instead of a sermon. It tends to be about 15 minutes in length. A homily will also only be specifically about the readings for that day. The Catholic Church has a cycle of Bible readings that repeats every three years. Each mass there are three readings, the Gospel reading preceded by an Old Testament reading and a New Testament reading such as one of the epistles. It is set up this way so that if you went to church every week, in a three year period you would have heard most of the Bible.

3) At a Protestant church people will approach you and be friendly. This is because they are wanting you to join their church. People at the Catholic church might seem more stand-offish at first, but basically that is because they are there to worship God and want to give others the space to do that themselves.

4) I believe at a Protestant church you would be expected to be there for long periods of time on Sunday, a morning service which might be more than an hour, Sunday School (even for adults) and then some sort of an evening program. In addition most Protestants are also expected to go on Wednesday nights. As a Catholic all that is expected of you is an hour at some point on either Saturday night or Sunday morning or afternoon. If you would like to be more involved there is also daily mass that you can go to as well as other things like Bible study or other ministries or prayer groups that you can get involved with. We also have things like Theology on Tap where you can get together and have a religious discussion over a beer. It is all pretty flexible.

I am just pointing out some of the different things that might have an influence over whether or not you find a given church to be fun. Ultimately though you need to look at what it is that is taught at each church, what their doctrines are.

A man dies and goes to heaven. He is met by St. Peter who begins to show him around. They soon pass a house where a party is going on. There is a pianist and cucumber sandwiches and well dressed people sipping white wine. The man asks St. Peter "Who lives in this house?". St. Peter replies that it is the Episcopals having a cocktail party.

A little farther down the street a wild frat party is going on. Tequila flows like water, strippers are doing pole dances, and everyone is getting wild and crazy. The man asks "Who lives in this house?". St. Peter says that the Amish live here, they never had any fun on earth so they make up for it in heaven.

The man sees a house off in the distance at the end of a dead-end street. St. Peter says "Hurry, hide in the bushes". The man asks "Why, who lives there?" St. Peter then says "It's the Catholics, they think they are the only ones here".

If you are truly trying to 'pick' a church, then go to the Bible. Read Mathew 16:13-20 and then read the fulfillment in the first two chapter of Acts. Then truly 'pick' a church. The catholic church was not established until some 270 years after this.

I like the idea of picking the religion that'll be most fun. But, why limit yourself to Christianity? I think some of the neo-pagans or even the Raëlians might be more fun.

Honestly, if you're trying to choose a religious belief based on who has more fun, then you've completely missed the point. Choose a belief that encompasses what your heart tells you to be right. I searched for 10 years before I found Wicca.

If you have no other choice than that, well...

Choose protestants! No doubt! Protestant priests can be male and female, get married and build a family.

No doubt that they are more broad-minded than those single catholic priests.

I grew up Catholic, and was miserable and dysfunctional...Thank God I had enough sense to leave that world behind....I am still looking for an exorcist for my mother, she is badly brainwashed and possessed.

I was surrounded by alcohlics, perverts and little old ladies with Bingo addictions

You shouldn't chose a church based on if it's fun. You should chose a church if you feel that what it teaches is true and if it meets your spiritual needs.

I think you could just ask people line up and kick you in the junk if you need more fun out of your religion.

I'm an outsider to religions, but for all I see, fun is a sin.
