Of course you should still have the party. The ring doesn't signify the event. You're family and friends are celebrating your love, not the ring on your finger. Forget about that small detail and party your tail off!!!

You are still engaged right? That is all that matters. You are celebrating your commitment to each other..... not a ring.

Let me ask you this. Do you really need an engagement ring? Why not skip the engagement ring and put the money you saved toward some other aspect of the wedding? The honeymoon, wedding rings, reception, or ceremony. You could also go for a simple gold or white gold ring with a small gemstone that is not a diamond. There are many alternatives to a big flashy ring.

How about matching bracelets? I have seen several brides do that. One even told me "If I have to wear something because I am his now he should do the same!!"

So please don't let the lack of a ring stop your wedding. You should be enjoying this time!!

Congratulations on your engagement and best wishes for many happy years together!!

You can do whatever feels most comfortable to you both.

If you want to wait until you have a ring, because most people like to check out the ring, that would make it less awkward for you in having to explain why you don't have a ring.

Then again, who cares what anyone thinks whether you have a ring or not? It's about the fact that you two love each other and focusing on the rest of your lives together. A ring is just a symbol of your committment. If you can't afford a ring yet, why not just get a simple gold band in the meantime that you can also use for the ceremony and that would give you some time to save up for the ring of your dreams.

My husband bought me a beautiful ring 6 years ago. It was maybe 1/4 of a carat with tiny baguettes. I loved it. He did, too, but always wanted to buy me a bigger ring. So he did, for our 5th anniversary.

This is not terribly important in the grand scheme of things. If you wanted to tell little white lies you could say you just dropped it down the drain by accident, or that it's out being re-sized. Or you could go to a cheap place and get a ring that looks about the same to make it through the party.

But really, it doesn't matter. You don't need a ring to be engaged. Enjoy the day!

A ring is just a symbol.

My engagement ring was homemade- silver wire wrapped around a small seashell. (Hubby and I had met at the beach as kids) Again, a ring is just a symbol.

Have your party girl, as long as your have a ring before the wedding you shouldn't worry what people think.

The party is about you two getting engaged not to show of the ring.

why do you need a ring to celebrate your engagement? The engagement is in the emotional commitment you've made to each other. The ring is just a personification of that commitment.

If the ring mean alot to you and your fiance then I think that you should hold off/ or buy a silver ring and use that temporarily. After you afford one, will you be able to afford wedding rings? I think you guys need to go sit with a mariage counsellor and discuss finance and ways of saving money.

Actually there are 3 rings to get.
1st: There is the engagement ring.
2nd: There is the wedding ring.
3rd: Comes the suffering.
