you can wear what you feel comfortable in. you can wear a dress shirt and a pair of dress pants, or nice jeans. if you want the jacket wear it with a pair of dress pants or the jeans. no tie. they invited you, not your clothes. go enjoy yourself, and be comfortable. and relax.

Five PM is a transitional time for a wedding. Any earlier, it would be a more casual affair. Any later and there would not be a question. A black suit is your safest bet. I would pair it with a neutral colored shirt (not white) and a grey or deep colored (burgundy or rust) tie. You will not be over dressed for the ceremony if it is in a church. In fact, it will seem that you are paying respect to the church that it is being held in even if you are not a member. If, after the ceremony, you feel that you are over dressed for the festivities of the reception, you can remove the jacket and/or the tie. Please make sure, though that the shoes you choose are clean and have no scuff marks. You wil appear put together even if you don't have a lot of money to spend.
Hope this helps~~

As long as they haven't stated on the invite that it's black tie. I would go with the jacket and offset it with slacks of a different color . A black suit would probably be too much. Don't wear jeans, this is a special event and that's too casual. I think you could go without a tie - your jacket, a nice shirt, grey slacks and black shoes sounds good - you would look nice and be comfortable as well, but if you're still unsure, your best bet would be to go to the Men's dept of a Macy's or Nordstroms or your local dept store and have a sales rep give you pointers since they should have some experience in that arena.

Wear the suit w/ black socks and black shoes and belt. If you want to look a bit less formal, wear and colored shirt (gold might be nice for fall) and a good looking pattern tie. You could also go with grey pants (not light gray though - too summery - stick to medium grey) with a pale blue shirt, blue pattern tie. Stick with the black shoes, but make sure your socks are the same color grey as the pants. Make sure that the hardware on your belt and shoes (if any) matches the metal tone of any accessories (watches rings etc.)Hope this helps....BTW are you the grrom or a guest?

I would wear the black suit with a colored (if you have one) shirt and tie. Then, when you get to the wedding if you see that no one else is in a suit, take off your jacket. You can never go wrong with a black suit, and 5 o'clock is normally a formal wedding.

A 5pm wedding is going to be somewhat formal. Wear the suit. Do not wear jeans! Never wear jeans to a wedding. You could go with or without a tie. That's not a big deal.

You can still wear the black suit, just maybe without the tie. That would be less formal and I believe it would look fine for a wedding

Black suit and tie would actually be a perfect choice-- NOT too formal at all. Maybe you can remove the tie during the reception if you feel like it.

wear the black suit, wear black shoes and socks(socks need to match you pants unless you wear jeans), wear a tie, the suggestion for a gold shirt was good...go to a men's department store and ask for help with a shirt and tie...do not go under-dressed...always better to be the best dressed as opposed to the under-dressed.

Wear the suit with an open necked shirt, and black dress shoes (remember to shine them). The ladies will love ya.
