I think that there are some really great, all natural preparations that you can use for depression. When I suffered from Post Partum depression I used a product called SAMe and I can tell you that in about 20 minutes I felt a million percent better - boy was I surprised and relieved! Here's a link:

I found no side effects, just peace. I swear by this product. My doctor wanted me to take prescription medication, but this worked better than anything I could imagine and all natural and nutritive.
Peace!

It is all on a persons preception,
Personally, I don't like any man made drugs, I did a report for school a couple years back and foud the most common over the counter drugs were more harmfull then helpfull, but if that is the only way out of a dark depression that some one sees, then help yourself, belive it or not, you will always have one person in the world that cares, even if you've never seen their face.
Depression is an ugly black abyss that lives deep in your soul.
So dark you don't see who is around you.
So empty, it feels like you are the only one trapped.
So deep you see no way out.
When you start climbing you get beaten and battered.
You fall off the latter you worked so hard to build.
Back into the well that has kept you.
You hear those above you .
Enviouse of their joy, and laughter.
You dream of the day you will see the surface again.
Run with your friends.
Love your family.
Hold onto these images.
Build your latter, and climb.
But remember, you might fall again,
But never stop climbing.

I just spent a year on Zoloft for my depression. I hated being on it. I had no emotions at all, people said I was a zombie and others said I seemed more depressed than before. I have been off for a month and have found my new lease on life. Maybe other drugs are not that bad, I don't know. I do know that I would rather never take anything again. I am having trouble with short term memory sometimes, I am not sure if this is an after affect or not. Good luck with finding something.

I was recently diagnosed with anxiety and depression and my doctor gave me prozac and zanax for them. Myself personally was very sceptical about taking these drugs. I felt like there was something wrong with me and that by taking the meds I was admitting I had a problem. The truth is, there is nothing wrong with you if you have depression. I have been on meds for 3 months now and I am so much better. I feel very clear about my thoughts and I am a lot more happier now. Meds aren't for everyone though so if your depressed I would call your doctor and go over your options with them, good luck

I know that there must be a lot of people that depression medication really works for, or they wouldn't be prescribing them. Unfortunately everyone I know that has taken them was a shell of their former self when they were on them. Some have brutal side effects. I think they are used too much as a quick fix instead of dealing with the real problems.

I don't believe "mental illness" is separate from the rest of the body. Depression is a chemical state of the brain, an illness. Medication is for illness. It's not "drugs," it's not bad. It's good. It works. (but it takes a good week to start working, during which a person may feel unusually tired & sleepy, but that goes away after the first week)

I think everyone gets depressed at some point in there life. Just its good to have family and friends to lean toward. I was on Zoloft and Eli ville (think that how u spell it) in high school. It helped a little. Also talking to someone helps more than anyone could possibly know. To me though talking to someone helped more but, I still get down just not to often.

Chronic depression is a chemical imbalance, usually seratonin. Pills can replace the shortage, so I'd say go for it. The reason they don't always work is with all the balance of chemicals necessary to keep you functioning at an optimum level, it's difficult to find the right one. If something doesn't work, DO tell your doctor, he won't think you're whining, there's more you can try.

I was on Pixel, and I do not recommend it. It made me stupid, and if I forgot to take it, I couldn't remember my own name. And when I did take it, I felt like I was constantly high. Try to find out what is making you depressed, and go from there. Talk to a shrink. As soon as I left my crappy ex, I stopped taking the pills, and I haven't looked back since.

I would talk to someone that deals with natural foods and health remedies. So many times depression is related to certain foods. Check into it before you let a doctor do their normal routine of prescribing more meds.
