I am her God mother and she is my pride and joy, I love her more than anything, I may have spoiled her to much. My brother and sis-in-law just had their second little girl about a month ago, I cant even hold her without the other one getting soooo upset, I do not have kids, and dont know how to handle this. Please help!!!!

This is not an abnormal reaction. You have been her special friend for a long time. Now, she feels a little displaced at home and when you hold the new baby, she feels displaced again.

I think you should do two things. First, set aside time that's just for the eight-year-old. Second, before you hold the new baby, ask your niece to help you. Make her a part of it.

ohhhh, this one is easy. simply sit on the sofa with the baby in your arms and your neice next to you. explain how delicate the new baby is to your neice and how easy it would be to hurt it. ask her if she wants to hold the baby, then say okay but you must sit very still and be very gentle, then with the permission of the baby's parents, of course, you hold the baby in your hands and lay the baby in your neices lap but don't let go of the baby. you hold the baby in her lap for a short time. and let her marvel at the precious little one. also you can include your neice in on the taking care of the baby such as getting a diaper for you or a blanket or whatever. but don't ever take your hands off the baby. this way your neice will feel like a part of you.

Explain to her that just because there's a new baby around it doesn't mean that you will love her any less.
