I give mine candid ginger. It settles the stomach. Works for people too.

Talk to your vet--they have several types of meds that they can suggest that really help. Also, try to take your dog on short runs--like to get the mail or to do an errand close to home and then each ride go a bit farther. This helps build their tolerance for the car for long trips. If the only time you are taking your dog in the car is to visit the vet, that may be triggering the car sickness, too. Kind of an anxiety thing.

My dog always got sick, even on 20 minute rides. My veterinarian told me it was OK to give mine a human medicine called Dramin or Dramamine. I bought the medicine as a last resort because my family and I took her to the beach; it was an 8 hour drive. I gave one drop per kilo. She was fine, except for the fact that she slept all the way. On the way back I didn't give her anything, and she didn't get sick. Now she's fine. I think she just needed to get used to the car. One thing that really helps is keeping the dog secure, so that he doesn't think that he'll fly out of the window or anything.

It's best to ask your vet what to give your dog, but depending on how severe your dog's car sickness is, you can often get them over it without drugs.

Most dogs who get car sick are a lot better if they can see where they're going. What I did with my puppy who got car sick was just took him for very short rides, then a fun walk, and a short ride back home. He totally got over his car sickness in a very short time.

Dramamine can be safely given to dogs. Check with your vet for dosage suggestions. Also ginger snaps do work very well but you need to keep feeding them throughout the ride otherwise you'll end up with partially digested cookies all over your car.

Ginger often works & you can usually get a dog to eat a couple of gingersnaps. Bonname also works but you would need to check with your vet for dosage (I haven't had a carsick dog in 15 year)

I have learned that anything you can give a small child, you can most likely give a dog. Dramamine works great with my lab.

Gravol seriously helps. Get childrens gravol, and give him/her one, if its a small dog, give it half of one. Or if you're not sure about my advice, give the doggy half a one to start with anyways.

you can call your vet and ask this over the phone to be sure if it works for dogs, but my vet advised me, regarding my cat, to give 12.5 to 25 mg of liquid benedryl. you can get it, child's liquid formula, over the counter. (i actually got 25 mg tablets, broke one in half and gave it to my cat - worked fine)
