Technically yes it does grow, but not in the form that you buy it.
It is made from a hard wheat that has a high gluten content.
The wheat ears are ground up and made into a dough with or without eggs or other additions to give it different colours, then made into the various shapes with which you are familiar, and either dried and sold in packets, or cooked fresh.

You can also get pasta made from other plants such a buckwheat, but they are not as popular as the wheat varieties.

Noodles and pasta are essentially the same thing from different parts of the world.

No, it doesn't grow on a plant, although I remember a tv commercial that suggested pasta grew on trees. It is made from flour, egg, and water to form a dough. The dough is then shaped whatever way you want & dried.

There are 2 kinds of pasta.

Spaghetti is grown on a tree in the Congo region of Africa. It is picked by natives and shipped all over the world. It is a favorite food of the mountain gorilla who enjoy it al dente with a light marinara sauce.

Semolina - also known as spermazoa - is a worm-like creature which lives on the ocean floor. It is difficult to harvest and thus is more expensice than spaghetti. Since it comes from the ocean it is usually served with a red or white clam sauce.

Hope this helps!
