So many people claim that they are following the true teachings of Christ when they spread hateful lies about other religions and they critisize other people for believing something that differs from their own thoughts and religious practices. Can anyone honestly tell me where, in the bible, Jesus (himself) said that people should be angry, violent and hateful? I've been following Christianity all my life and I've never heard anything about this....Am I reading the wrong bible?

The problem with this site/forum is that people often voice an opinion or answer that doesn't reflect their own faith. They post things that reflect how they think Chrisitians would react, and that is wrong. When confronted (and I've confronted some) they state that they "used to be Christian" or that's what they were "told by Christians." It would be better if we could somehow mark our avatars to actually reflect the beliefs we follow.

Of course, there are plenty of misguided Christians every once in a while too. They always seem to get on the news too don't they?

Jesus was indeed loving and kind and a preacher of peace, but He also hated sin, hence the episodes where He called the Pharisees/Saducees such things as "white-washed sepulchres" and where he threw the moneychangers out of the Temple. He was a very complex individual which is something people often don't understand.

Where many Christians get off track is that they fail to realize Christ held the worst judgement for the religious, not those outside of the "church." The unbeliever can't be expected to follow the rules of the believer.

There are many hypocrites out there; I agree. And some Christians are so legalistic that they can't see the forest for the trees. Like those who criticize you for drinking an alcoholic drink (never mind that the Bible says NOTHING about drinking; only getting DRUNK--I think I can have a glass of wine and still drive home)...but the same people will have an extra-marital affair and lie about it for years. I speak from family experience. Anyway don't let the hypo-legalists get you down--there ARE real Christians out there who do their best to live what they believe. You're not reading the wrong Bible, hon...there are those who are interpreting it the wrong way, though. And taking it out of context to suit their own selfishness. Make sense? God bless.

jesus never says we should be angry violent or hateful. we should be loving, but in the way a parent is loving when their child does wrong. i agree that many christians don't live out their faith, and they give the rest of us a bad name. jesus does say that he is THE way, THE truth, and THE life, not A way, A truth and A life. that means that he's the only way, and religions that claim there is another way must be wrong. there is no gray area in this issue, not if you're going to believe what jesus said. jesus was never 'tolerant', he didn't beat around the bush when people did wrong. he cursed the pharicees, called them a 'nest of vipers' and a 'white washed grave'. he also got really mad at people for making the church a marketplace, and literally drove them out. jesus wasn't afraid to stand up for what he knew was right, and that's different from being hateful. when people sinned, he didn't judge them. he accepted the sinner, but hated the sin. there's a difference. hope that makes sense, sorry. you've just found my soapbox. i tend to get effusive in defense of my god. hope I didn't offend

There has been going on for many years a crisis of faith. Faith, religion, or spirituality (whatever you want to call it) is a very personal thing. Well people like to judge other people based on this which is wrong, unfair, and highly prejudicial. People put down other people in order to feel superior--hence the crisis of faith. My religion has more truth than yours, well you're going to go to hell, well my religion believes in free will, and what abut original sin---what garbage!

Remember the "holy" crusades meant to drive the "Infidels" out of the Holy Land (Judea)? Who were the "Infidels"? The Muslims and the Jews. Why. They didn't buy into Jesus being the Messiah. What really has changed?

Jesus called the Sadducees and Pharisees serpents and liars and hypocrites

Jesus was never afraid speak his mind

Jesus also said to many of his followers they may hate their mother and father

Sometimes the truth hurts, it hurts sinners thats why they take offence so easy. Thats why the Jewish authorities at that time had the Romans crucify him.

If someone is preaching a false doctrine, its a Christians responsibility to guide them to the right path. Just burying your head in the ground and letting them carry on with it wasn't what Jesus said.

And when you tell them the truth, they persecute you because they are sons of darkness.

you're in straightforward terms remarkable in so far because of the fact the moral teachings of Jesus are the very such as those of the Buddha. There are small variations, yet i will grant they are notably plenty an identical. you will anticipate that, considering the fact that the two taught to an identical people (i.e. sinful people such as you and that i). despite if, it is basically one ingredient of Jesus's teachings. He additionally taught very plenty on the character of God, and of guy's relationship with God, and on the fact of hell and heaven. in fact, to declare Jesus and Buddha taught an identical issues, you may forget approximately relating to the final public of what Jesus incredibly reported.

I agree with you, but do remember Jesus in the temple. He turned over tables and yelled at those defaming the temple. This was a violent outburst with a purpose. He wouldn't have done that if he didn't intend to. Jesus never had a momentary lapse of reason. This tells me, that anger has its place with correct motives. Used correctly.

Most Christians do teach love and peace. It is the ones that misrepresent Christianity that get all the press. Sad, really.

There are hundreds of thousands of Christians who love their families, teach their children to love, study the Bible, give to ministries, send out missionaries, and serve others. They are not self seeking and attention grabbers. That is why you don't hear about them much. They are out there.
