First, she is a puppy. second attention(what kind) petting and praise may be interpreted as a reward for the (hyper) behavior. What your puppy needs is exercise, lots of walks and lots of play, and affection (only) when she is calm and relaxed.Watch ( T he Dog Whisperer) on The National Geographic Channel ,Fri.eve .+ Sat morn.

It's pretty common for a dog to be hyper at that age. Of course he needs lots of walks, teach him to play fetch so that if you tire before he does you can throw the ball. Also everytime he lies down and is calm praise him and give him a treat so that he knows he's being good and will begin to do it on his own more often. In general though with German Shep.s It's good to keep them pretty busy. They are working dogs and get bored easily which can make them become destructive. Good Luck.

Lots of exercise is needed both mental and physical. Work on obedience or teach her to play hide and seek with a toy, games that will get her to use her brain. Crate train her if she isn't, it will teach her to calm down and sleep when you are busy but don't leave her cooped up long or she'll hate it. This is normal puppy behaviour, she'll outgrow it just hang in there:)

I promise it will get better! One thing I did was instead of putting food in a bowl I hid it to make her find it (if you feed wet food get a hollowed bone to put food in then hide it). It was a trick told to me and it seemed to give her a job she liked to do and now I have a few treat balls that you put dry treats (or semi- moist) into and they have to figure out the way to get them out which works great too. The treat balls come in all sizes even different shapes at ptco, petsmart and other doggie toy stores. Good luck!

She needs lots of exercise, shepherds are bred as working dogs. They were intially bred to herd sheep and they have a high drive and energy level. Make sure she gets plenty of exercise and buy her toys that keeps her mind active as well (kong toys). You may want to consider obedience classes it will help her settle down and give you control.

that's the breed! i have one the same age. shes hyper as all get out. fortunately, she and my mastiff play all day long. if you don't have another dog, obedience training, get her into agility. if you don't have to time or funds (i know i don't! agility is EXPENSIVE) treadmill train her. don't get me wrong, this won't replace you, but i have yet to meet a person who can go as long as a hyper shepherd!!

Exercise to wear her out! Vigorous tug of war. Long walks/jogs (great to get you fit, too!) Another dog to play with (gasp!)

I agree, tiring her out will mellow her out. long walks with a wrap-around weight pack on her back will do the trick.
