First of all you have to get an bachelor's degree in either zoology, biology, chemistry or physics. After that you take a test called the MCAT. That decides if you are eligible to go to medical school. After four years of med school you become a resident and then an intern. That is when you decide what specialized training you want to pursue.

First you get a B.A. or B.S. in chemistry or biology or whatever, THEN you go to medical school for another four years and only then do you begin to specialize in pediatrics.
