I have blond highlights in my hair and want to do a dark auburn color overall. Do I need to dye my hair all one neutral color and then dye it auburn to have it uniform? Or can I just put the Auburn dye and it will come out all the same color. My natural color is dark brown

I would go to a salon.. they will do it without error. It would be worth the money.. so you dont have to color, just to color again. Not good for your hair.

If you just dye it auburn you will have 2 different colors. I suggest you dye it one uniform color and then auburn. Make sure you use good dye however. A professional would be better beause you never know what home dye can do. and it has no gurantees either.

If you color your hair all at once your highlights will be lighter than the rest. you can get dark brown and color all your hair then wait a couple weeks then do the auburn. be careful, too many chemicals can fry your hair!

I did this once before, and I just dyed my hair all over with the box of color, and it turned out fine. Of course, it depends on how light your highlights are and the exact color of the dye you are using. I have since stopped doing my own hair, and I would reccomend only going to a professional, they know what they are doing and you won't screw anything up!!

red is hard to keep ...it likes to fade within a month...... i would lighten it up and then put the auburn on... i have dark hair and the last time i died it red when i had highlights,,,,, the highlights eneded up coming back through so i lighened it and then dyed it and it held alot better. even professionally done it faded so i would lightwen it up definately....then oput the auburn n cause the full color wont come out right unless you do....

You will still have highlights, which actually will look more natural than a uniform color.

If you still desire a solitary color you will have to strip your hair of all collarant, and then recolor - this will cause a good bit of damage to your hair though.

Your other option is to simply wait for the highlights to completely grow out.

There are beauty supply stores out there that can sell you the necessary products to help you with what you desire.

go ahead and do the dark auburn.the lighter highlights will pick up a lighter shade but it will look pretty.the only thing is bleached hair tends to bleed thru and you might find yourself dying it again sooner than you have too.if u want dark auburn try the darkest shade of it you can find.auburn is a red and reds fade fast.dont dye your hair twice! remember color deposits color on top of color so.................. whatever is darker will always stay darker just pick one nice shade you like and go with it.

I had light brown highlights in my brown hair and put a red dye over the top and you couldn't tell. Call the 1-800 # on the box.

You need to apply a red filler on the highlights first, then apply your dye or your highlights may turn pink. Good luck.
