1-going out on a limb means that the person is kind of guessing at what they are going to say next.
for example: "i'm not sure if your favorite color is red, but i'll go out on a limb and say that it is."
literally, going out on a limb is risky b/c the limb of a tree could break at anytime.

2-no big deal---means it's not an issue. it's no problem.
example:
It's no big deal that you can't do that today. tomorrow is fine to pick it up.
basically, it's a small matter. if it's a big deal, then it's of major importance. the "deal" is refering to dealing cards. a big deal means you may end up with large amounts of money on the bet. no big deal is just a regular round of cards.

3-this is a racial slur, actually, against someone from the middle east. it's not a good thing and anyone who uses this term and other racial slurs are just proving their ignorance to the world.

4-get a life...this refers to someone who is concerned about things that they really don't need to be concerned about.
example:
someone is upset because their favorite celebrity couple broke up. then that person needs to "get a life". basically, meaning that there is more in life to worry about then celebrities etc.
so, "get a life" means find something more important to worry about than trivial things.

5--self centered is pretty literal. that person thinks they are the center of the world. our galaxy is sun-centered, meaning the sun is at the center and everything rotates around it. a self-centered person feels that the world revolves around them.

6--loose change sucks. this isn't really a "saying". it's just someone's opinion. loose change is a group of coins, like pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. if you have a bunch of loose change it can weigh down your pocket, make noise, get stuck in things....
so, it can suck. "suck" means that it's a bad thing. if something "sucks" then it's no good. anything can "suck"...
food, clothes, people....etc.

7--hanging out with my hubby means that that person is going to spend time with her husband. "hubby" is short for husband and "hanging out with" is just spending time together.

8--people enjoy putting forth these things----not sure the context you saw this in, so i'm not quite sure how to answer this one.

9--you are trippin'--means that you are wrong about something.
example "i think you're trippin' about seeing me at that girl's house." that person is saying "no, i wasn't at that girl's house and you never saw me there."
it is slang typically heard in the african american slang and is hard to really explain.

10--wow, heavy stuff--means that what was just said is deep. it requires deep thought and will weigh heavily on that person's mind.

11--holy spirit---this is a religious figure. usually, it's found in christian religions as part of the trinity. the trinity is god, jesus and the holy spirit.

12--infected with or infected by---either could be correct depending on the rest of the sentence.
i can be infected with a virus, but i could have been infected by a bee sting.
see, "with" is used when describing what has infected and "by" is how one was infected.

13--this isn't really a "proper" sentence, but i'll try to explain.
if someone is going "through" something, then they are going through a time in their life that could be difficult or exciting or just plain awful.
so, "mom" could be going through a bad time and maybe is reacting to this.

hope this helped and i didn't confuse you even more!!!

take care.

2006-09-15 05:12:35 · answer #6 · answered by IZ03 2 · 1 0

1. Means you're really doing alot more than you should for someone or really risking more than you should. Like, someone I didn't know very well asked me to drive 100 miles to come help her fix her flat tire..... I'd say "Okay, but I'm really going out on a limb here".

2. Usually means "you're welcome" but can also mean that whatever you're talking about is not siginificant or it didn't take much for them to do it. Like, someone helps me carry some things up the stairs, and I say "thank-you" and they say "It's no big deal".

3. A derogatory term used for middle-eastern people.

1. I am prepared to take a huge risk in this matter, because when I climb out to the end of the limb it is thin and will probably break and make me fall.... so I'm gambling that I will be correct and risking a big fall down to the ground.

2. It is a small matter to me, not very important. A "big deal" is when I have a Project or Business Transaction that is of very high value and importance to me and Success is absolutely essential. No big deal to me means that I do not have much to lose, do not personally risk much at all in this venture or activity.

3. dont know this one - sounds like a racial slur to ***** / black American people

4. It indicates that I dont think you have a very interesting life or lifestyle, and that you are "obsessing" about SMALL MATTERS or issues. In other words, if you had an interesting, busy, active, stimulating LIFE, you would not have time or energy to devote to small, petty, unimportant matters that I would see as being trivial and not worth thinking about. It is saying "forget about" the matter that was being discussed.

5. Self Centred, self engrossed, self interested, vain, only interested in yourself and what affects you alone. Egotistical.

6. Loose change, literally means the money, small currency coins, you receive as "change" from a transaction where you tendered more money than the item cost to buy. When someone refers to "loose change" they usually mean that the matter / issue is of very little VALUE to them - as it "pocket money" or "lunch money" indicating a very small sum of currency. This also means that only having "loose change" as your assets would "suck" and be miserable, sad, inadequate, not enough, unsatisfactory.

7. Hanging out is keeping company with, visiting friends, socialising with someone. Hubby is Husband. So you would be keeping company with your Husband.

8. People like to SUGGEST or promote these things. Someone who advocates, or encourages a particular view, item, matter.

9. To be "fooling" or deluding yourself. Jovial humor, Indicates you are under the influence of drugs that are creating hallucinations or visions, you are out of control and delusional.

10. Very serious matter or subject that requires thorough consideration and evaluation. Very important news, ideas, action, to be taken very seriously by everyone in their thinking and handling of the matter.

11. Catholics say Holy Father, Son & Spirit. Generally indicates the Spirit or Soul of God, some Christians use it for the presence of Jesus.

12. Both are correct:

"I have been infected with the flu bug. I was infected by touching the doorhandle touched by someone else who had the flu already."

13. What do you think your mother feels about this matter.
What mood do you think she feels in this matter.
How do you think she will react to this, what will she do to handle or cope with it.
How will this affect your mother?

Hope this helps

i dont think that the fact that most people here speak English means you should. Write in whatever you feel comfortable writing in. Contary to the opinions of some, Yahoo Answers does not seem to be an English only website the world is meant to be inclusive so be yourself and if that means typing in Farsi why not? The only thing i ask is that you have respect for other languages and that people always respect yours. Good luck.
