I do not want to sell my car myself, would selling it to CarMax be a good option? Are they fair with value?

I have checked NADA and Kelly Blue Book, plus I have worked in automotive many years so I have no illusions about what the car is worth as it is. I have sold personal vehicles in the past but just don't feel I'm up to doing that right now.

Thanks for all input.

Asking for others' experience with the company.

My guess is that they are fairly non-negotiable and will give you the low end of the wholesale value of your car. If you are considering buying a new car from a different dealer it probably isn't in your best interest.

A dealer - any dealer will buy it for its wholesale price because you are asking them to do the selling for you and they need a cut of the action to put forth the effort. Some will offer more if they have a shortage of that particular classification of used car. If you sell it on your own, you can sell it for retail price because you handled all the tire-kickers and sales work to get it sold.

My choice would be to sell it on eBay - minimal work, sort of fun and it'll sell for retail. However, there's still sales work to be done and you have to understand how eBay works with car sales to get top dollar.

I think it depends on the car...one of my friends was able to sell her Blazer to Carmax, and she got a reasonable amount for it. But when I tried to sell my Cabrio to them, they offered me $4k below the Blue Book, and it was in perfect condition. It's worth a shot though - you never know until you try!

Pretty fair.....i would look up the value of your vehicle on Kelley Blue Book on line and expect anywhere from $1K-$2k less than that.

Check the bluebook value, then take it to them to see if they are comparable.
