there's only one way to tell the approximate age of a kitten, and that's by checking their teeth. their size is somewhat an indicator, but not always. if they still have their milk teeth, their about 4 weeks. if they've lost some of their milk teeth, 5 to 6 weeks. baby teeth, 7 to 8 weeks, well developed baby teeth, 8 to 12 weeks, and so on.

Most kittens are 8 weeks old when given away because it is illegal to give them up before they are done nursing. But if you found this kitten then that is a different story. If the kitten is still taking in milk or can cat foo then it is probably no older than 6-10 weeks old but if it is eating dry food then it can be 12 weeks to a couple of months old.
But if you want to be absolutely positive then your best bet is to take the kitten to the vet to find out the approximate age.

A vet can get an approximate age when little by their teeth size. Once the teeth are fully grown they no longer can.
