I don't think that could ever be proved to my satisfaction...but let's say it was; Even though I may still keep many of the values I have grown up with and believe in, what would be the point of calling myself a Christian? I guess I would have to look at Judaism, and see if the scriptures could convince me that I am somehow worthy to their God, without Jesus having saved me. If not, then my soul is doomed. I don't know what I would do. I guess my only option would be to beg for God to have mercy on me anyway, and hope for the best.

How is that a test of faith? If Jesus were absolutely proved to not exist, then he wasn't my savior, and my faith would be misplaced.

There is this site on groups at yahoo named-
Christianity Revealed.
There was one question that puzzled me, and it is,
from the OT,and i do not know where it is,but it says,
You shall name him Emanuel My question is why was he named Jesus instead of Emanuel?
I believe strongly in a God of the universe a creator that can do anything that our finite minds cannot begin to find out.
Following the teachings of Jesus fiction or non is so beautiful who cares if he is fiction or not,the teachings yield peace*

We need all the peace we can get.
I consider myself a christian only because that is a label that has been assigned to believers, and iam a believer, if not in the man, then in the teachings and in the spirit that inspired such beauty.

The teachings had to come from someone, so its all good to me.
If God inspired such Love and beauty in certain persons and they wrote them down and we are not for certain about the origin then its mystery?

I think God wants to keep us busy and searching truth
otherwise we may become dull and even more ignorant
dilly dallying our way thru this earth journey.
Mystery is worth searching.
If one does not like trying to solve mystery`s
then one has the choice not to.

Yes, iam a true christian and not religious.
Yes,Love the teachings of Emanuel/Jesus.

To me, being a Christian is more about ideology and a way of life. It wouldn't matter so much to me. It is likely that Jesus was an historical person (although, the miracles, sayings, deeds, etc. attributed to him are more likely the result of emerging Christian tradition). There are extra-Biblical sources that speak of Jesus as having existed. However, these are second hand sources (as are the N.T. accounts). Some historian like Tacitus and Josephus mention Jesus, but again, these are second hand sources and Josephus' account is disputed as authentic.

It is possible that a group of Messianic Jews invented the idea of Jesus. I find it interestingly coincidental that Jesus' name means 'God saves.' Granted, Jesus was a common name at the time, but still....

Some of Jesus' actions and words are strangely similar to Judas Maccabeas who predates Jesus and was revered by the Jewish people (see Judas Macc. turning over the tables of the money changers before the Jewish revolt lead by the Maccabees). Again, I do think he was an historical person, but to suspect otherwise is certainly within the realm of possibility.

That being said, the ideas behind the Jesus event are meaningful to me. Also, being raised Christian, it would be difficult for me to jettison that which has become a large part of who I am. The basic message of being kind to one another, charitable of spirit, etc., is appealing to me, and worth hanging on to, regardless of the historicity of the person Jesus.

On cannot prove a negative. In any reasonable debate, it's up to the person making the positive claim (i.e. "Unicorns exist") to prove the claim.

This concept is entirely lost among the faithful. They merely make an assertion and wonder why anyone would disbelieve them.

There is no real evidence that Jesus ever existed, and none that any god has ever existed.

According to the evolutionists and atheists, you cannot prove something does not exist. The question you should ask is not whether Jesus ever existed, but if he is the Messiah. That is the question, and the answer is YES! As for proof, if you choose not to take the Bible and the hundreds of eyewitness accounts of his existence, then take some of the non-Christian eyewitness accounts of his existence, a good example being Josephus.

For a person who has faith, there is no way you could convince me it was solid proof. For the faithful who believe, they will always believe, and yes they will always consider themselves Christian. And also yes they would still try to follow the teachings of Christ.

Modern biblical scholarship makes a very compelling case for the idea that Jesus never existed... that he was, in fact, entirely fictional.

Well Sir...I will always believe in God. He is my 1st love and always will be. So, if the question was changed to fit my belief...that God never existed...I would not believe it. Even if there was rock solid proof before me... God will always have my love.

You can't believe in Jesus with your intellect. You believe in him in your heart which is your spirit. Those that worship me must worship me in spirit and truth. The word of God is truth. You just know what you know because he lives in you. No matter what anybody says. You know to the point that you are willing to die for it.
