Sir,

To answer your question, the priest uses the telescope to look for angels, so that he may prove scientifically that God exists.

After several reports of astronauts (while in orbit) sighting angels watching over the world, the religious community has taken a greater interest in science, particularly in the space exploration field.

Currently, it is estimated that 17 percent of all inhabited planets have angels floating in orbit, and that each of those planets both have angels named Michael and Gabriel.

Seeing that Michael and Gabriel are found at each planet with angels, one can only assume that the Vatican is running an underground cloning operation.

So, in actuality, someone needs to be monitoring those clones, and the priest in Arizona is it.

Yours,
Perry

Initially the Catholic Church was interested in astronomy to reform the Julian Calendar into the Gregorian Calendar.

Later the establishment of the present form of the Vatican Observatory in 1891 expressed in a real way the Catholic Church's positive regard for science.

Now to join in doing good science in a way that is possible, given the Vatican's other concerns, as part of the consequence that the Incarnation of Christ applies to all human activity.

With love in Christ.

Looking at the bigger picture, this existance of this observatory proves the Catholic Church - at it's highest levels - is in favor of morally proper scientific experimentation and exploration.

The next time someone says the Catholic Church is against advancement in science, tell them of this observatory.
