it stunk really bad too...was I wrong to blame it on the guy next to me??

Since you asked in the etiquette section, you get the etiquette answer. You should have done nothing.

One is assumed not to be in control of flatulence. Anyone who says or does anything, including the "culprit," is rude. Everyone is supposed to politely pretend it never happened.

This is different from a burp, which one is assumed to be in control of, and requires an "excuse me."

I don't make the rules, but I know about them!
