You're either not shutting the machine down properly, or there is an error on the disk.

Try doing a Scandisk and defrag and see if that helps.

There would be a problem while you shutdown the PC.You should properly close all the applications before shutting down your PC like IE,and all other running appplications but u should not directly shutdown by pressing the power button. If PC is not shutdown properly then the disk checking process starts while booting of machine. You should allow it to happen, if interrupted then again the machine will be slow.Even if u want to skip it a message will come on the screen that if u want to skip disk checking process press any key.

In the first place do shut your system properly. do a complete scandisk of all the drives. the system will not prompt for a disk check at boot time. or run dr.watson to clear off the errors on your hard disk. even if it does, trust me just format your drive and re-install, if not you will defenitely face problems in the future, where you may loose more data than what you may loose now.

When chkdsk first starts, it will say something to the effect of "To bypass chkdsk, press any key within the next X seconds." Just press a key and it will stop chkdsk from running that time.

Hit any key, like it instructs you to. Next time, shut your computer down properly, by going to the Start Bar and Shut Down. This is coming up because you are most likely shutting your computer down by pushing the button.
