WHen my kids started school and I was told that peanut products were banned, I thought the same as some of these folks...
Then I read that some peanut allergies are so severe that if the child was to shake hands with someone who held a peanut butter cookie it could cause a reaction. Not jsut an uncomfortable itch or lil rash, we're talking throat-closing, grab-the-epi-shot reaction.
My kids can have the PB&J on weekends, I dont want to risk another childs life. Its kind of a "put the shoe on the other foot" situation. If it was my kid, Id appreciate the rules!

No way! If someone took away my peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I would have been pissed. Maybe a better Idea would be to ensure all alergies are on file and teachers are informed. Maybe having a few first responders with apropriate airway securing devices would be a better idea.
If we travel on your path, then half the food on the menu would be banned. They would ditch chocolate milk becuase someone might be lactose intolerant. Or maybe they will stop serving pork because one kids grandpa was muslim, or perhaps they will play safe and only serve oatmeal and water. There we go! There's a great *#&%iing Idea.

No! Peanuts are a cheap, nutritious, vegetarian protein source, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are part of childhood. Let the kids who aren't allergic have them. Hand to God, all it takes is a little smart planning for the kids who are allergic.

No and I think it's completely ridiculous to think that it should be banned. Why should all children be denied just because a few have allergies? That's hardly fair. My husband and I have a son who can't have milk or dairy products. So does that mean that all of the children at his school should go without milk, cheese or yogurt just because our son can't have it? I don't think so! It's our job as parents to make sure that the food service dept. at the schools are aware of our children's dietary restrictions. Our son has to drink soy milk. The food service supervisor gives me a paper to fill out that lists forbidden foods as well as substitutes, we take it to our doctor to sign, give it back to the school and the state makes sure our son has soy milk to drink at school.

I think it's probably a good idea. Peanuts are good, but not for children that can die from it.
