A visit to the vet might not be as expensive as you think. The cat probably needs some antibiotics. A cat bite can be very infected and if it is on your cats throat it could make him very ill , as well as possibly dying. The infection could take a long time to leave his body and even when the outward signs are gone, he could still be suffering . What you might try is give a call to a local veterinarian, and ask what you,as the owner can do to ease the cats pain. I would suggest a warm compress a couple times a day (a wet washcloth) to get the infection to drain out. I am not a vet, but have dealt with many animals over the years. Also the vet might let you work out a payment plan. Good luck!

Is the cut really bad or is it just a small cut? I assume it is bad since you've mentioned that he has a hard time to meow and eat...
Since you can't afford to take him to the vet, for the time being why don't you try cleaning the wound with some clean cotton wool or tissue... This is to dry the wound a bit...
Or maybe you can dab a tiny bit of an antiseptic liquid (Dettol) on the cotton wool/ cotton bud to the wound area... Just press it gently & slowly... Sure it will hurts like hell... Make sure some1 else helps to get a hold of him & grab him tightly so that he won't scratch you or run away when you are applying it...
At least you can stop or reduce a bit of infections on your cats wound... Since the wound is on its throat area, then he wouldn't be able to lick it (so don't worry)... Like I've said, just apply a tiny amount of Dettol on it... Try applying it as nessecery... & see whether the wound is reducing or not...
There's 1 more thing you can try... Have you heard of golden sea cucumber? Or in Malaysia we called it Gamat Emas... I don't know whether you can easily find it in your area but here in Malaysia, Gamat Emas is widely known among the Malays in Malaysia as a wound healing. Villagers wonder of nature and reaping its benefits; obviously firm believers that Gamat Emas is the perfect remedy for cuts, sores and inflammation. Seriously it really works!!!
So if you have this kindda product in your home area, I really suggest that you try this... Apply it on your cat's wound... Sure in a few days the wound will heal... 100% guarantee!!! But if you don't have this kindda thing, then try using Dettol or any other antiseptic liquid...
Good luck & I wish your cat will get well soon... Next time, please don't get into any fight...

I hate to say it but you have to bite the bullet. Either pay for his medical needs, or you may have to think about his life quality, and if he is suffering. You may be able to give him to someone and they can take care of him. I know the hospital that I worked at would sometimes take animals and have the owners sign something that says they turn over ownership and are not responsible for payments. You can also bring him to the vet and say you found him. All of these are deceiving, but I would rather that than have your cat suffer. The wounds, without medical care, could get infected. If he is having a hard time talking, they are deep. You don't want him to suffer, so do what is right.

I agree with the last couple answers, and the compresses are good. But this kitty needs medical attention and the sooner the better.
The only way to prevent/treat infection (which is almost a certainty with bites), is antibiotics, and a vet must prescribe them.
Please be a responsible owner and take him to a vet. Many will let you have a payment plan, and if they understand that it is financially tough for you, they may also give you a break.
Another comment that is valid is that as a Tom cat, he WILL be in fights. You should have him neutered as well, and keep him inside, where he'll be safe.

it will get worse. i adopted an old tom with the same issues. he had been that way for some time, thus, his healing time and the costs were higher. if you can't afford to take him to the vet, find a humane society that can help, or find a vet that will work with you on payment arrangements. the other thing to do is to neuter him so this doesn't happen again, because it will. it's a tom cats nature to fight, and there's only one way to override it. you need to act fast though, because he will probably need stitches, not to mention the infection. a little known fact about cats is that they have very infectious, potentially deadly bacteria in their saliva. that kitty needs a doc!!

as with any animal bite, he needs attention. take him to the vet and explain to them that you don't have a lot of money right now, they will work with you. The problem with animal bites is not the threat of bleeding or that much physical damage; it's the bacteria that animals carry in their mouths. in an injury, the bacteria that normally do no damage, are what's called oppertunistic, and can set up infection when introduced to a internal wound. If it has been three days, he needs to go now. he really could die and you wouldn't know until it was too late. they will give him some anti-biotics to treat the bacteria, but he needs to go now. it takes almost a week for the medicine to really work.

I would take him to a vet as soon as you can. He needs an antibiotic to help fight the infection or to keep him from getting one. Find a vet that is willing to work with you on payments. Not to be mean but you shouldnt have an animal if you cant afford to take it to the vet.

get some polysporin(antibiotic ointment) and then you need to look at the wound it will probably have cat hair in it you have to get the dried blood and hair out of the wound , you can use tweezers and a cloth with warm salt water(one teaspoon salt to one cup water) on it. the cat will fight you but you must clean out the wound then you can put the Ploysporin on the cut .
which will keep it from growing infected and help it heal.
repeat this process once a day.

Take him to the vet and work out a payment plan or call around to shelters and ask about low-cost veterinary care....he needs treatment. The wound could be worse than you know, and it could succumb to infection....this could kill your cat. So work something out.
Good luck!
