It seems my husband's doctor is confused! He had blood work done to to test everything and all his tests came back normal! Now he weighs 380 Lbs and his blood pressure is good and all his test results came back excellent. He test result scores do not add up to his weight. He eats like a bird and is very active outside and always moving! He is careful of what he eats too. We are confused at all of this. The doctor said he is healthy and she is just as confused as he is! They are talking about banding surgery to help bring the weight down and see what goes from that! It is only being talked about but is not out of the question!

So my question is Has anyone here gone through this and can give me some advice. I am not worried about the banding surgery! I just want to know who has been through the weight thing and still have excellent blood test and other lab test results?

While I personally haven't gone through this (when I eat a lot - I gain wt, when I eat less and exercise, I lose wt), I do have a close friend who has a similar experience.

So, based on your info, here are my thoughts:
1. the good test results could be due to either a. good genes, or b. eating fruits/veggies/fiber (known to help w/ BP and chol) and being active

2. If I were you, I would be worried about the banding - my mom had this and the reason individuals have their stomachs reduced is to physically limit the amount of food you eat - if your husband already doesn't eat very much - then this isn't going to solve the problem.

3. get a referral to a nutritionist who can run an analysis of your husbands diet - it might just be that even though he is eating very little - he is eating very calorie dense foods that could be contributing to his weight problem

4. get a second opinion from another physician. have this new person and your current doctor run a full chem panel on your husband to check for ANY other aspect that could be influencing his metabolism (such as his thyroid)

5. also, recommend getting a referral to a exercise physiologist to run a test to determine your husbands basal metabolic rate - this will determine exactly what his calorie requirements are. this combined w/the nutritional profile and lab results should hopefully make the picture a little more clear. And it is at this point that you can make a more informed decision.

Good luck!

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

I would get a second opinion. There is no reason a man who watches what he eats and is active to weigh 380 pounds. That is very dangerous and will cause long term damage to his joints.

Good luck. Do a lot of research on the internet and such. I am sure someone has dealt with this before.

in my opinion, weight could be due to stress no matter how less you eat.
