The fun of the first date is finding things in common.

Watching the other ramble on about a personal campaign is kind of a bummer.

As ever, avoid hot topics like politics and religion. Movies, pop culture, the Internet -- keep it as light as possible.

Dates can be fun but they really are a testing ground and the first shaping of a friendship. So, mostly just see if you enjoy each others company!

How about a few of these. The weather, what movies are in theaters, Something you did that wasn't very smart to long ago. (You should have plenty of these). You can talk about some of your family members.

You could talk about how school is going, kinds of cars you see on the road, your favorite shopping places.

I hope some of these can help. Have a good day.

Your date will be interested in you asking about her or him. Pretend your date is the most interesting person you've ever met.
Don't be over complimentary. Find out what your dates interests are and go from there.
