Hi I have been wearing gold rings for years, but a few years ago I started having a problem with the ring I wear most, the wedding ring, I have to keep removing because I come out in sores underneath it.
I have had the ring made bigger, still no change,
I take the ring off to wash, as to make sure my finger, and the ring is dry before putting it back on.
Sometimes I only have it on for three or four hours, and I have to remove it, any ideas on why I am having this problem, and what I can do to stop it.
Thanks

You dont say when you got the wedding ring? It's not the gold, its simply the width of the band, not letting your skin breath. Imagine leaving a bucket on the lawn for ages...what happens to the grass underneath? As you say, its the one you wear most. Signets have a thinner shank, and are changed, not worn, rotated....you keep the same wide band on, blocking all light and air. Your skin is going like the grass in my example.
If its recent, compared to the time of wearing the ring overall, your skin changes as you get older, less resilliant, or maybee achange of job, more hand cleaning involving water, dampness under the ring....i think your skins just reacting to damp, possibly even from sweat, being enclosed under the ring.
If its similar to the time of ring ownership, this is just moreso.
I suggest having the ring remodled, to a thinner width band, which will make it thicker in height. You may suggest to your wife, for now, and with a new remodled band, she excuse you for changing hand, while the skin properly recovers, a few weeks i suggest.
ps. I'm a jeweller and have done this work, met this problem a few times. (i'm not self employed anymore, and can't do this for you...so i'm not touting for work!)

It's prob not the gold but what ever the gold was casted in or what the structure of the band is made out of. Sometime over time you wear the band out little by little and now your finger is exposed to that metal where it's having a reaction too....
You also can develop allergies over time as well... but most people react to what gold is casted or made with then the actual gold. I am allergic to copper so if it's casted in a copper model or has a thin piece of copper in it to make the shape- the 14 k gold ring turns my finger black!! Like a Halloween movie not just a little mark.
I would try a different ring out for a while....
And remember- YOU have to let your finger heal first. So take off your ring and leave it off until your finger fully heals. You'll just make it worst trying to jam another ring on it if it's not healed 100%.

I had this problem a few years ago. Try scalding your wedding ring in boiling water. It might be that it has something on it that you are allergic to. I used hydrocortisone cream to clear up the itching (which had spread all the way down my hand) and afterwards never had any problems.

Wearing gold is not a problem . The problem might be with your skin or with your ring.
First let your finger to get rid of the problem with the help of a skin specialist.
Then check whether your ring is made smoothly inorder it wont wound you further, if not remodel and wear a new ring.
Cheers!!!

Try painting clear nail polish on the inside of the ring, this should stop the inflammation. I get this problem from time to time, it may not be normal soap thats causing it, with me it is washing up liquid that does it!!

its most likely a new allergy. If you have money, than I would suggest changing the band to hypoallergenic, if you are poor like me,coat the band of the ring with a clear nail hardener/polish. it will wear off after awhile, but you can at least wear your ring again.

It could be an allergy but not sure. Are you using a new lotion or maybe a new soap youre putting on your hands. It may be whatever youre using mixed with the gold. Pay attention to different things after you use them.
It IS possible to develop allergies when we get older, I did.

It's Gods way of saying you're allergic to your wife:)
No only kidding - we can 'develop' allergies as we get older. It may be that the 'purity ' of your wedding ring is a different gauge to your other jewellry, check it out with you GP if it carries on

Don't wear the ring for a while and see if it clears up. See a doctor.
