A nice thought; but in practice, it would never work. The basic premise of most of the Abrahamic religions is that their version is right and their practitioners are the "Chosen Ones", to the exclusion of all other ways of belief. And as The Artist Once Again Known as Prince used to say, "Everybody can't be on top." The other half of the equation is that religion requires a certain amount of checking the thinking, rational part of your brain at the door -- not conducive to reaching a compromise; or better still, recognizing the inherent absurdity and contradictory nature of religion in general and putting it aside as the outmoded superstitions of a bunch of Bronze Age primitives.

You do catch on to one important point, though: religion tends to thrive in places in impoverished countries and with people who have lost hope. But the solution is to get them to put their hope and trust in their fellow human beings, not in some Invisible Sky Daddy™.

Because talking will solve absolutely nothing unless all parties agree to it. Most religions think that it is the only "True" religion and all others are wrong. It won't solve anything to sit down and talk. They won't agree on anything unless everyone in the world converts to one religion. And I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Wishful thinking. There will be a one world religion during the great tribulation, but its false. During the millennium things will be set up the way God intended and people will worship God only.

It would have to be a very big round table. The religiouos leaders may agree but the lower bishops, priests, mullahs, emirs, etc ,will always have their own agenda so they would also have to be accommodated.
