Hi,
Ted Pack is on the right lead when he looks at the William Bennett family, since Wiley was there for over 10 years for 2 census gatherings. There is a marriage record for Wiley Smith in Caldwell Co., Missouri, which shows he married Mary Newell on 7/29/1866 in Caldwell Co., Missouri. You can look it up at familysearch.org and search for Wiley Smith with 'marriage only' and specify a year range around 1865, which is when I figured he would have gotten married based on the ages of Wiley's children in 1880.
There is also a record for Abigail Potts marrying William Bennett at familysearch.org, and it shows that Abigail had married a Smith about 1833 in Tennessee. This family file had mixed the children from William Bennett's first marriage with Abigail's children from her first marriage (if she was actually married to a Smith first), but the family file does show that William Bennett's mother was a Smith, also. That could be the family tie of Bennett to Smith. Hope that helps!

Lydia "", 6
This gives you some siblings, but his parents are still a mystery. It looks to me, from the ages, last names and birthplaces of the children, like Abagail and her first husband moved from Tennessee between Sarah and Rebecca - 12 - 14 years before 1850 - then he died after Lydia was born. William's children look like his wife died after William II, the one who is 5 years old. After a year or two the widower and widow married, and they now have a child Palmia.
That is the most likely pattern, but the Smith kids could be children of William's sister or Abagail's brother, taken in when their parents died. That gap in the Bennett children between William Jr and Palmia might be the result of fever, hogs, Indians, bears, fire; something that resulted in one or two short white coffins and a family that didn't laugh as much as they used to.

Hey fuzzycame...,
LDS Family Search has him, and his household Census Record. There is a hyperlink for each of the children, which indicates more information. There is no 'pedigree' file, but you can download the record(s).

One of the difficulties you will have searching for them is the Common name SMITH. I have some Nova Scotia Smiths in my family tree, and it is difficult to research.
Note that Mary Smith has no maiden name listed, but that her father comes from NY and mother from Missouri, according to the record.
