I had a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever when I was a teenager. She was the smartest dog I have ever come across. You only ever had to teach her something once, and she remembered it forever. And she was just wonderful with cats and babies of all kinds. A baby could do absolutely anything to her, and when she got pissed off enough, she'd just get up and move. And yet she was always protective of the whole family. I haven't seen this breed since then, though I imagine they are still available in hunting circles.

Boxers! They are known as the canine comedians, and that describes them to a "T". The fun antics never end when you have a Boxer in your house. Not a breed for the unmotivated or sedate people, though. They like to rush into everything full throttle - the dog with the most joi de vive I have ever met.
