I have a 4.5 month old yorkie/chihuahua mix. In the past week she has destroyed 3 of her chew toys (a rubber pacifier, a rubber foot, and a cloth squeaker). Is there a brand of chew toys that can withstand all her teething? She does have a kong. Something similar to that kind of material would be ideal. TIA.

you may want to try nylabones. they are VERY hard, and are made for normal or agressive chewers. they come in a variety of sizes and flavors. the only down side to these is that they tend to come apart with too much chewing, so they leave a bit of a mess. i have a mastiff and a shepherd, and they still have the two i bought them two months ago. great things. or even try flossies. they look terrible, but are great for teething.

Have you tried any of the Nylabone products? Also there are some rope type products. I have quite the chewer of a dog too. The toys that are fleece like are stronger. The kind that are lamb like. Try big lots or family dollar they are cheaper. also try http://www.jbpet.com they have some better deals. Kong is a great choice you are correct. Nylabone has some strong hard bones that take a long time to chew down. Just do not get the edibles or the gummy ones. Get the hard nylon ones. You can get them online or at petco or petsmart too.

I have a yorkie/toy poodle mix, and believe me, she has probably eaten more toys than not. However, luckily, I have found a select few that she has not managed to destroy. One is a Nylabone product. Its white in color, has nobby ends and has a green (mint) hard rubber center. It doesnt seem to destroy as easy as the rest of the nylabones. Next is a rubber squeeky bone. I bought it at walmart. It is purple, red and green in color. It is made of a soft rubber, but the ends seem to be too big for her to get her mouth around long enough to chew it up. Next is a toy that I bought at Pets Unlimited. It is shaped like (and looks like) a fire hose, and like it says on the packaging, it is very durable. This is my pups favorite toy. She chews on it for hours, and it is alos very good for playing catch. I also have found the knotted ropes to be good, however try to stay away from the ones with strings on the ends, as she will probably chew them off and swallow them. All Kong products seem to hold up fairly well too. Hope this helps!

I have three mini dachshunds and all are chewers. I found that one loves tennis balls. Make sure that you buy a good brand. Do not buy the ones in the pet stores. They ruin them in a few minutes. The very best toy I ever got was in the baby department at Target. I bought a cloth block with a rattle in it. After 4 dogs chewing, fetching and pulling on it nothing has ever happened to it. I have had the toy for 16 years!!

KONG makes a variety of different toys. Is your dog just not interested in it? Is it the kind you can put treats or peanutbutter in? My dog loves that, but don't do it all the time. A rope toy might also be good. I don't prefer Nylabone products because when my dog was a puppy he gnawed it down pretty good and I kept find little pieces of it all over the house. They make different kinds, some that are rock are and some that are softer. My dog was never interested in the hard one.

Have you tried tennis balls?

i've been there. my dog kills all of his toys too. NEVER get cloth toys. squeaky rubbe balls last a long time, when their rubber make sure that their pretty thick. tennis balls and golf balls are good. get some toy bones- neve the real ones-they could splinter. and never get those hide chew things cause ones they get all soggy the dog cant really rip it up and he'll try to swallow the whole thing and then he'll choke on it. umm. base balls, once again rubber chew toys need to be thinck, give him a little box occasionally cause my dog lactually ENJOYS ripping them up. if he's an outside dog then give him a coconut, they'll chew on it for hours before they get all the stuff off of it. he may not be able to open tho since he's a smaller dog, split in half and let him eat the inside, it's good for him and he'll have fun ripping it off.

You might try this home-made toy. Take a clean, empty plastic pop bottle(20oz size) place a small, hard doggy treat in the bottle so that it rattles. Place the lid on the bottle & place the bottle into a heavy wool or cotton sock. Tie the end so the bottle won't come out. Shake the bottle to rattle it in front of your pup & then toss it & let your pooch have at it. My shih tzus have played with this toy for years, from the age of 2months & haven't wrecked one yet. Have fun!

There is a toy out there called Combat Extreme. It is made of ballistic nylon. The manufacturer warranties these toys against chew damage! If you dog hurts one, they will replace the toy. Used to be you had to mail order them, but I have been seeing them in stores a little. Just google Combat Extreme dog toy.

Go to dogtoys.com and go to select breed. Next select heavy chewer. At least twenty toys will be displayed for you to look through.
