My mum has had 4 children and her tummy hangs over.. she's been trying to lose weight for a very long time, she goes to the gym every day and does 100 sit-ups but her tummy is still hanging over. She's considering a tummy tuck but I really don't want her to as it's a health risk..does anyone know if it has worked for them (diet and exercise) ?

well my mom has 3 children and she used the FIRM workout videos along with a simple diet. The FIRM is combining aerobics with weights and the diet was just eating in moderation and hardly any junk food. As for her stomach....it got smaller but is still kinda flabby. i suppose the only way to get rid of extra skin is a tummy tuck. but my mom didn't get one because she is happy with the way she looks. she went from a size 12 to a size 6! so tell your mom that she really doesn't need one. it should only be a last option.

hi! I had a tummy tuck and hip liposuction in July, and I am thrilled with the results and my whole experience.

I had twins 3 years ago, and before that I was an aerobics instructor, so I KNOW that diet and exercise are the best ways to lose weight. But my skin was so over-stretched from a twin pregnancy, that it actually was "damaged" an stretched beyond repair. It just kinda hung there are was gross. And people thought I was still pregnant! It was so depressing. So I looked into a tummy tuck and discovered that it was ideal for people like me who really are physically fit, but have damaged skin that does not allow their bellies to be held in anymore.

Granted, it is a major surgery that involves anesthesia, but it is fairly safe procedure. It does not involve any major organs...all of the operation is primarily done above muscle. Recovery time varies, but a solid 2 to 3 weeks is good. She will NOT be on bed rest....in fact, it is better to get up and moving so her body learns how to move with it's new abdomen. Mobility will be limited for her recovery, but nothing horrible. I did not even stay over night at a hospital....I went home within an hour after the surgery and was fine.

The best thing, for me, was regaining my self-esteem. I feel so much happier with my body, and that has improved my life in so many ways. I think your Mom realizes that this may be what she needs to help improve her life as well, and although ANY surgery can be scary, I think you don't have to worry about her health.

I wish her well, and you should let her know that you are concerned for her health, but want her to be happy, too!

Get your mom to exercise a lot, a tummy tuck is a good idea. But i suggest to go ask the doctors, sometimes when the skin still hangs over after a very long time, there may be something wrong with your body. First try the tummy tuck, if it still doesn't work, then ask for professional help.
-good luck

A tummy tuck operation is considered a good alternative to exercise, especially for the obese, but its not cheap and there are some health risks involved. There's also an exercise belt which you strap to the stomach area and it sends impulses that burn fat away. She could try exercising again and maybe get a personal trainer as they are qualified to help people lose weight. She should also eat a healthy and well balanced diet with no or very little sugar, salt and fat.

Diet and exercise are great - and the sit ups have tightened the muscles underneath, but the extremely stretched out skin from having been pregnant 4 times will not ever be the same. A tummy tuck will cut away the excess. Think about how a rubberband loses elasticity if overly stretched for an extended period of time. Will exercising that rubberband tighten it? NO- but triming away the looseness and tying a new knot will!

sometimes the skin has been stretched so much that no amount of exercise will get back to shape. A tummy tuck isn't that dangerous, Have her check out the hospital and doctor that she is considering, ask for references from other patients.
I had a tummy tuck for the same reason and yes it is painful for couple of days to a week, but I'm very please with the results and would do it again. After the surgery have her keep up with the exercising, it will keep her in shape, tell her good luck.

My ideas? Try to get her to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so she needs to lose her fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days for her tummy.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio.

The best time to eat is just after the workout within an hour when metabolism is raging. For muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at her scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

If she has tried for a long time and it still hangs, then yes, Id recommend a tummy tuck. That skin is just not ever gonna firm back up. Thats normal for alot of people.

Id research doctors, and you wouldnt believe how much better your mom will feel about life if she has it done.

Get tummy tuck surgery in India. Cosmetic Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges cosmetic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for American and Canadian patients, as cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your cosmetic surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got a couple of cosmetic surgery procedures in India like the breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift through the forerunners healthcare. She is more than very happy with the results. She just paid 30% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company. I personally have seen the wonderful results and am particularly impressed with the kind of quality care she got from this company. I hope this helps.

Just doing regular situps are not going to do it. Have her go out and get that video 8 Minute Abes. She will really like it and she will know the difference in a short period of time. She has to stick with it though. It is tough at first but it really works. Besides there are some really nice guys on there to watch while she is feeling the burn. Best of luck to her.
