He's about 5 months old now, a golden retriever. He used to cry when he wanted out of the crate and when you opened the door and told him to come he would come out. Now when you open the door to let him out, he stays in and cries more. If I pet him for awhile he's fine while you're petting him but soon as you stop he sits in there and cries more. Why the change all of a sudden?

This is definitely a first! I've never heard of a 5 month old puppy not bounding out of his crate at the first opportunity! How is he otherwise? Is this puppy eating normally? Is he active and healthy? How much time does he spend in his crate? What's his temperament like - is he timid or a normal out-going golden?

Too many unanswered questions here to be able to give you any kind of helpful answer. However, if this is a sudden behavioural change and he hasn't had any traumatic experiences lately, I'd have the vet check him out for physical causes.

If I were kept in a crate I would cry too. Dogs aren't meant to be held in such cramped quarters. They need room to run and play. Keeping him in a crate is cruel. Why don't you give the dog to someone who will afford him more freedom and get yourself a fish, or better yet, a pet rock? I am sure both the dog and you will be happier for having done so.

When you open the door go directly to the door to go out. Are you the only one did someone hurt him as he came out did something happen around the crate while he was alone in it?

you puppy is afraid to come out for some reason. Did something happen recently that hurt him...another dog bite at him or did you get a little impatient. You have to treat your puppy like he is one of your best friends and he will be. If he seems to have something hurting him take him to a vet right away.

how big is the crate? you shouldnt keep it in small places...it is upset because it is used to being alone in the crate probably..you should give it alot of love and some toys...it will come around..it sounds adorable...good luck and godbless!
