I see many people attacking Christians saying ' I see what effects Christianity has on the people who follow it and I choose not to follow' What kind of effects are you guys talking about really.. What have you got that we don't? The only difference between us ( since we are all sinners) is that we choose to follow a way away from sin through Jesus in order to improve our lives.. In the meantime we live like you live.. maybe better.. But do tell me about these effects..

How about crippling guilt to the extent that people self harm or try and commit suicide because they are always told that they are not doing enough in the church. My close personal friend thought that she was so bad because she could not live her life like God that she tried to commit suicide. She was mentally scarred by the burden of guilt laid at our feet 24 hours a day. Perhaps not all Christian religions are like that, but ours was, and I would never consider looking into any religion ever again. I live my life by good principles, I do not feel a need to pray to anyone for help with that. When I did pray (and I have many times, and I have also prayed with a minister from a Born Again Christian Church, which was not the religion I was brought up in) I felt nothing, not a single thing, it was like he was praying to a brick wall. I did not experience anything that they assured me I would feel. I have tried many times, doing exactly as I was told to do, I really wanted it to be true, it just wasn't. So now I live my life as a good person, I try to be good but I no longer bear the burden of guilt.

Following any set of beliefs that involves obeying the dictates of one being can lead to undue suffering. Forcing one's life to fit inside a box dictated by another restricts thought, the sense of self, and discovery. In addition, one begins to attempt to force the lives of others to fit into that same box, while that box may be arbitrary, based on unfounded beliefs, or even cruel depending on the individual. This idea does not only hold for religions. That box can change a person and it is certainly not always for the better.

in my opinion, but,
there is only one truth but many paths to that truth.
bashing one religion in order to "prove" the superiority of another is just an ignorant waste of time. I include atheists and agnostics in that as theirs is a belief system also. God made us all different and that is one of the miracles of the world. If we find God through any path, isn't that what matters?
if you have found your path, good for you. maybe those who are religion bashing should realize that their time is better spent following their religion more closely and learning more about it. because it is a lifelong process and no one can ever say they have learned or experienced it all when it comes to their religion or spirituality.

Side effects may include: Magical thinking, Emotion based decision making, Irrational fears, bigotry, intolerance, elitism, reversed morality, loss of individual expression, inability to make decisions based on fact and reason... seriously, shall i go on?
What you've added is known as Pascal's Wager.. and it is a fallacy. It assumes that there is only one way to god and that way is simply believing in it's existence. In a way that last statement is kind of true... since he is imaginary the only way to see him is to imagine him.
