accept as truth is still based on your own limited understanding, whether you pick and choose what you want to believe, or decide that it is only possible to say you can't know. For those of you who say that you believe in only things that have proof, have you looked at the actual reasearch done on what you believe or you just assume because you saw it in some book (or on TV) that it is actually true?

We all have to decide what we think is true. We Christians simply wake up in the morning knowing that God's love is with us.

It is arrogant to tell someone they are going to hell if they don't believe in the religion that you do. Not all christians do this but there are quit a few who do,same thing can be said about some muslims.

Not all Christians are arrogant. Only when you force your beliefs on other people or make your distiniction of religion a problematic matter with someone of another religion that is becomes arrogant. There is nothing wrong with having faith with any god or gods, just as there is nothing wrong with not having any faith with a god or gods. However, that is an emotional issue for a lot of people of faith and when it's brought up, a lot of the conversation can turn emotional and therefore end up leading to a certain direction that the conversation was not meant to go. For example, the opposition on gay marriage and sex before marriage, etc.
It is arrogant to say that because of a certain belief that a Christian may carry that EVERYONE has to abide by that, which is therefore arrogant. This, of course, is not true with everyone of Christian faith, however, the stereotype has been labeled because of certain things that certain people in the faith have. The blame is really on the extermists of the religion who give it a 'negative name' in some aspects, but everyone suffers the price.
Just like not all terrorists are Muslims and not all Atheists at Communists.

Some are very arrogant... Some are quit humble.

But the really verbal ones come across as very arrogant.

I have a friend who is an Episcopal monk and while he believes Christianity is the truth he maintains that he is very privileged that it was revealed to him. He does not run around telling other people they are wrong. He might offer a contrasting point of view but he never says someone else is wrong.

Bottom line it is an attitude thing.

"have you looked at the actual research done on what you believe or you just assume because you saw it in some book (or on TV) that it is actually true?" This statement is hilarious considering that you just look in a book (bible) and assume it's that it's "actually" true. You spend so much time trying to convince everyone you're right...THAT IS ARROGANCE!! funny thing is in your "bible" jesus says he will teach you to be "fishers of men" how many fisherman do you know that jump into the water screaming "come here fish, I know I'm right"......cant' catch much fish that way...a true fisherman sits patiently and waits for the fish to come to him....you just jump in and scare all the fish away...way to go! scoring big points with yer "god" im sure!

Every day I wake up and look outside I see proof of THE DEITY so have no problem with THEIR EXISTENCE. Have my own personal Belief System which works for me. Really don't care if your Belief System is the same as mine or not as long as you respect and tolerate mine I will do the same for yours. this is why there are so many different Belief Systems because what works for one may not another. This is true in individuals as well as Cultures and Societies.

Your last statement is exactly what everyone else with a belief feels as well. You become arrogant when you say that what they feel is absolutely wrong, and then try to tell them what they should be feeling and/or believing. Believing you are right is one thing, but you become arrogant when you disregard everyone elses beliefs to try to prove yours right.

why? partly because people caracature those they disagree with. There are many very humble Chrstians and some not so humble... but Chrstianlity by nature is a call to humility in part is they got sommthin to brag about it is in the cross and in God

This is related to the issues of
1) positive tolerance or negative tolerance

Poitive toerance: Does tolerance demand you "feel good" about all positions? Do you positively expect people to agree with your opinion (positive ptolerance) which in my opinion is an unhealthy way to handle disagreement

Negative tolerance: Do you tolerate opinions you sincerely disagree with respecting the other persons God given right to make mistakes or invest their lives to a very large extent as they see? the more healthy and mature option

2) postmodernism
The other isse this related to is postmodernism. this is a reaction to cold rationalism .. in postmodernism nothing is true... you make your own truth... in the end postmodernism is like bungeee jumpin into a sea of meaninglessness

Really, everybody thinks to be right. To be arrogant depends on how you project this belief. I have known atheists that are VERY arrogant and make their belief of nothing a "religion"

I believe the problems arise when someone INSISTS that they are right in the absence of any definitive evidence on the subject.

No one holds a belief thinking they are wrong.

Christians too often push their religion on others. This is not right. Religion is a matter of what is right for you. Kahlil Gibran says, ''There are many doors to G-d''. Each must choose his own way, and others should accept that and not push another religion at them.
