If she peeks out the corner of her eye behind her hand to see if you are paying attention to her, then she is faking!
I also feel like if you say something hilarious and she starts laughing then it was not such an important matter either.

Are there any tears? Does the sobbing seem to be a little exaggerated? Does the crying going on and on and on --- over little things.
Why would she feel the need to "fake" cry. She may be a very needy person, she may be unstable or extremely emotional.

It doesn't matter. If she's crying or fake crying she's delivering a message that you need to address.
Now, if it's manipulation -- then it will be dealt with on several levels.
But on the surface you are obliged to believe what your sweetie tells you. If he says he's not cheating, believe him. If she says she's on a diet, believe her. This is how mature people act.

I do not know if a girl is fake crying. I would comfort her anyway if she is my girlfriend.

You don't really know unless they are bad at it, most girls don't fake cry. Some of them are just over senstative and cry very easally.
