Our outdoor cat (a stray that we've "adopted") had her first litter of kittens Memorial Day. We were able to place the kittens in good homes with family/friends. Soon after the kittens were weaned, we made an appointment to have her spayed. The vet was about 2 months back in appointments - during this waiting period to get her fixed, she went into heat and we think she might be pregnant. We still want to have her fixed and avoid another litter of kittens - but there is no way we'll wait until her scheduled appointment because that would be just 2 weeks prior to her approximate delivery date. The vet said that if we think she's pregnant they can try and fit her in sooner. The way we knew she was pregnant before was because her nipples became visible. Since they are still visible from the last litter, we don't know how to tell now - unless we see/feel kittens in her tummy and at that point, I don't think we could stomach aborting them. Any suggestions on how to tell? Thanks!

Take her to a different vet and have her spayed. Stop this cycle now. If she is pregnant, the vet will terminate the development of the kittens during the surgery.

Go ahead and have her spayed now. If your vet cannot fit her in, call someone else. 2 months is a very long time to wait for an appointment. That is ridiculous.

Your best bet is to take her to the vet. Even if it's not to get spayed, a vet should be able to tell you whether she is or not. There are vets that perform spay surgeries when a cat is pregnant (I don't know where someone heard they won't).

I suggest taking her to the vet for confirmation that she is not pregnant first & foremost if the test comes out negative schedule to leave her at the vets and have her fixed.

Is she acting funny? Like not letting you as close to her as before or jumoy when you touch her belly? Thats the only way we knew the stray we took in was pregnant ( both times, ugh, she had a total of 9 kitties in one year, poor baby). I would agree that her nipples are not an indicator since she just had kitties, but look at her behavior, that may give you a clue.

Most vets will not perform abortions. That's kinda odd cuz a person can easily get an abortion but not a cat? The vet can tell if she is pregnant.

Ask the doctor when you go in and get her fixed. typically they will check for this before they even do the procedure, but its best to ask before hand.
