why not go to the salon and have a professional do it.

I am a licensed professional and the #1 answer I here is because it is alot cheaper doing myself over paying lots of $ to have it done in a salon.

People think that they can get the same results by using a cheap store color as us professionals get using a nice Redken color. NOT TRUE!!!

Also some people say " Oh, I was at Wal-Mart last night and seen this lady w/ this really nice color so I went to the color section and found a color that looked just like hers. When I colored it myself at home last night it ended up turning this pucky color and now it is fried to a crisp!!!!!:"

People go pick out a color to dye their hair w/, they see the lady on the box and think their color is going to turn out the same color of the lady on the box. TOTALLY UNTRUE, 99% of the time it is a color totally different because of the natural color you have.

I really understand why people think they can get the same results as us professionals w/ out knowing the first thing about hair. We have to go for training, it's not something you learn just buy reading a box.

Because $10 for the dye, versus $50 at the salon is a big difference.

It's really easy to do, you can pick the exact type of dye and color you want, and control how its done when you do it on your own. I've been dying my own hair for about 12 years, and out of all that, I've only had it done professionally a few times.

I did get it done professionally every time for about a year, but that was because my mother-in-law owned a salon for a while, and got it done for free. Outside of having her do it professionally, I have gotten it done 3 times, and each time was well over $50.

It's just cheaper. As long as you know how to wash your hair, you know how to dye it. If you are low on cash, or just can't stand spending that kind of money every 6 weeks, then you do it yourself.

Usually, it's because of the cost. Why would someone who doesn't have a lot of money pay 30-50 dollars for a color job when they can go buy some dye for 5-10 dollars?
Plus, some people may not have the time to make an appointment and then go into a salon. Maybe they have kids or demanding jobs.

Most likely it's because of the cost difference.

A few bucks for a box of hair color or $70 bucks at the salon.

Hello, well I went to a salon in Cincinnati ( very cheek) and had my hair colored...that cost 150$ total...ah well.

My hair color natural instincts costs 7.00 a box and if I have a coupon its cheaper....so it is simply about cost...I prefer the salon but I have to color about every 3 weeks now....hope that helps.

well i have never dreamed about coloring my own hair because i might not do it properly. but other people may have many reasons and im sure that cost has something to do with it. However, maybe people dont trust others in their hair. i mean if you never get your hair done do you trust somebody who has never worked with your hair and may not know what it needs to color it? and if they mess up your hair can be damaged for a long time

Its too expensive, and a waste of money.
I've had my hair done at a salon, and done it myself.
Its a waste of money to get a professional to do something that I know how to do myself.

Plus, once you start using at home kits you are not supposed to start mixing with salon dyes. Metallic dyes are a funny thing. They are made with different ingredients and can make your hair turn out much different shades.

Cost! Huge difference between buying a kit at Walmart -vs- going to the salon!
