President Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower popularized it in a farewell speech. It was rather timid of him in that he only warned about it as he was leaving office.
Hitler came to power as the chosen front man/figurehead of the German military industrial complex, particularly Krupp. These men thought that they could control Hitler. They were wrong but they aided his war effort and made money. Some like the Krupp's did become Nazi's.Not just card carriers but believers. BASF was a major player and became part of that group that was punished after the war. Krupp the younger served a all to short sentence to atone for his fathers and companies crimes. starting the war, keeping it going and using slave labour(and working them to death) for three. The rest of the big companies were broken up and denied permission to do research in certain areas. This lasted ten minutes and then they were put to work to in the fight against communism. Your military industrial complex does have more control over the oval office then pre war Germany had or that it had during the war.Hitler, may Ran's cold darkness enfold him, had his own ideas that he was ,to coin a phrase, fanatical about.
By the way how did Dwight David Eisenhower get the nickname Ike?

Eisenhower said it in his farewell speech. Robert S. McNamara is the one who defined and explained it. .....Next time give me a hard one. I will not answer your other 'sub' questions. They are not of importance to the main question. I am not gonna play politics in here with you. Contact me for more info. I am always into a good conversation.
